COIL SPRINGS VS LEAF SPRINGS

Im looking at getting a Tahoe for a tow rig, I see the newer ones have coil springs and the older ones have leafs is there a differance in towing

is one better than the other and why

it will sag with weight on it and stock springs... its a 1/2 ton rig not ment to tow much weight

what if I put on an overload spring cheaper than airbags....right

It can tow a lot of weight. It cant haul a lot of weight, there is a difference.

i have a 2003 yukon(not XL the short one) with coils, i have towed my 89 pickup on a very heavy 18' trailer, and the back of the yukon loaded with a longweekend worth of camping gear and it did awesome.  it barely knew the trailer was back there.  only thing is if i was going to do it often i would use trailer brakes.

dont even try to use overdrive unless you want to buy a new tranny

get a cooler for the tranny and electric brake controller

overload spring your will make it ride stiffer all the time vs airbags you can adjust when you just have the trailer hooked up and keep that nice ride...

either way it'll make it handle better during tow

i tow my truck with my 98 2wd tahoe. airbags would be nice but are not needed. its all about where you place the truck on the trailer. i tow with mine pretty far forward and the back of the tahoe barly sags.

the question isn't really about how a tahoe tows, its about the different tahoe rear suspension.
the thing i would think about is the fact that with coils your going to have ALOT of rubber bushings to wear and go out.

But kinda off topic with a coil sprung Tahoe you get a better engine. The 5.7 vs. the 5.3. But I would still prefer the coil sprung suspension for ride quality, and it will not wear out the bushings too fast.  A lot of the movement is still vertical not twisting like a rig. But....

Also, the design of a coil spring is, well, more like a real spring.  It takes up less space and works better.(there's a reason almost all off-road racers use them if they can)  Just, it does cost more, and most manufacturers are trying to save money any way they can...
