heater core leak
« on: Oct 30, 2009, 07:25:17 PM »
I flushed my cooling system after replacing my head on my 854Runner and now I'm leaking radiator fluid into the cab on the passenger side floor board.  It was a pain getting the core out especially with the ac in the way.  Has anyone else expirienced this?

It seems to be leaking from the fitting where the tubing allows itself to swivel.  Does anyone know if the replacement ones are fixed or do they swivel like the oem one's I ordered one from kragen because the one from toyota was 400.00.

I don't think it's supposed to swivel; might have broken it? Those copper pipes are kind of sensitive and easy to damage when being installed... though I haven't worked on a Runner; just some first gen trucks.   :twocents:

Yea both tubes have kindof a pressed swiveling fitting that allows them to be positioned for installation or removal I think.  I hope the replacement is a solid tube type.

I ordered a new heater core but when I got it it was totally too big.  I ended up ordering up a new one that is supposed to be for a rig that has rear heating even though mine does not.  I had put extra foam padding on the heater core because this one iss a little bit smaller that my original one.  The tubes that were originally on mine I had to reuse and put on the new one,  before I put the dash all back together I fire up the engine to see if the tubes leaked and they didn't so I put the dash back together.  Now one day later and my carpet on the passenger side is soaking wet again with antifreeze.  Does anyone have advice on how to get the 4 runner heater cores to seal up?
