It's been awhile since I've gotten my camera out, since I've working 4/10's.  Which was last fall.  And lately we have been crazy at work, being short handed, and other misc. breakdowns and such.  So, most my weekends have been very lazy and playing catchup around the house.  That and the 40 months of ugle rainy, crappy weather.  I'm sick of rain.  But on a whim the other day, got to go out to BayOcean Spit early in the morning.  And found some favorable weather.  About an hour after I took the last photo, it starting pouring again.

Are they starting to remove the tree from little sluice yet? You text me a pic of a forestry guy with a chain saw standing ontop of the tree

Yea, it's all cut up. They took what they could with trailers and they have a helicopter that is working in the big sluice project stopping by Wednesday to fly the bigger pieces out

Ordered some ND filters, and they showed up with some scratches on them.  They came in plastic containers without any protection.  But I checked out my split one, and I think I'm gonna like it.  Once I get one that isn't scratched. Granted, I didn't get the high end ones.  But I figured I'd go cheaper and decide if I need to get some high end ones later.   :(

Don't worry about the scratches, they won't matter much unless you are shooting at f/45

So, I had one hell of a week.  And after having to deal with Insurance, and the body shop.  (wife backed into a concrete wall  :shake_head: )  Spending most of a week with only one rig.  My mom decided I needed to get our Xmas present early.  Don't ask!!

Well, she got us a new camera.  I don't need a new camera, I just needed a lens fixed and a new tripod.  Which would have been $250-300 at best.  But no, she had to get me a $900 setup.  She got me the Nikon D3100 setup from Costco, and it was $250 off.
http://www.costco.com//.product.11622027.html?utm_campaign=bazaarvoice&utm_medium=SearchVoice&utm_source=RatingsAndReviews&utm_content=Default

she has been hinting for some time about a new camera for me, but I kept telling her that I was very happy with my Nikon D70.  So, after a couple days staring at the box, been too busy to deal with it, I finally opened it up.  And after I examined it, put the battery and flashcard in, set it up, and started playing with it.  I'm very disappointed with it.

Here is my thoughts:
~this is a entry level DSLR, basically a point and shoot with interchangeable lenses.  I'm used to a lower mid level camera, D3100 is entry level.
~too small for my hands, I like the larger body camera.
~the attachment for the lens is mostly plastic, which has always been metal.
~it does have the sensor cleaner, deqauzer, and will clean on startup.
~14.2 MP vs. the 6 MP the D70 has.
~SD card, vs the harder to find CF card.

I haven't taken any photos with it, but I'll tell you that I won't give up my D70.  I like how it feels in my hands better overall, but I'll see the verdict in a couple weeks.  I will have both of them when I go out to shoot photos.

Finished a wood boring beetle damage survey for the National Park Service this past weekend on Alcatraz Island. Also one of my friends did an interview with KQED about a type of millipede that is fluorescent under black lights that he found on the island that were never documented there. Disclaimer I am not nearly as good as some of the people in this thread, these were just taken with your run of the mill Sony Supersteadyshot.

Before black light

With black light

No that isn't chopped they glow like scorpions do under black lights.
