Your torsion bar is your spring. Instead of a leaf spring or a coil spring an IFS truck as a torsion bar. It is a long straight round bar that runs from your a-arm back along the inside of the frame. It is made of spring steel and is mounted solid at the rear, and rotates at the a-arm. The more you tension the bar the more it twists the a-arm downward. Turning your torsion bars too much will throw your alignment off. You can get away with little bit (an inch or so) any more will start to cause abnormal tire wear. You change the tension at the solid rear mount, were there is a large bolt that you can turn to adjust the solid mount.

Well if you crank them up too much you will loose all down travel, and the ride will be really really stiff.  Not to mention you will have no articulation on the trails.

Torsion bars are straight steal bars that are fixed on one end and "twisted" from the other, the generally run lengthwise on the car. The more you twist the bars, the sitffer they become and the higher they will make your truck ride. They are still a spring, just not what we are used to seeing. I guess a good way to think about it is, if you hold opposing corners of a towel in each hand then twist it up, the more you twist, the stiffer is gets  :gap:

think of a torsion bar as an uncoiled coil spring.  on a coil spring, as it compresses it's like a torsion bar twisting
