Torsion Bars????????????? Clunking
« on: Aug 23, 2011, 04:24:43 PM »
I was wondering if turned up torsion bars will cause a clunking at full steer, because i cant find out whats causing the problem on my ifs 1986 4runner. I have brand new bj joints, shocks, cv axles, warn locking hubs, new sway bar links, and cant find whats causing the clunking so i was wondering if turned up torsions would cause it or it alignment needs to be done. greased and oiled everything to. PLEASE HELP

Normally there is a plastic cover on the stops, real offroading usually knocks them off. Either get new caps or get used to the noise.

if you just cranked the heck out of the torsion bars, you need to get an alignment as well, if you don't, your tires will wear funny

Is it a clunk or a grinding noise.  The grinding noise wpuld be the steering stops.  If it is a low clunk it could be something in the steering linkage, or possibly worn lower A-arm bushings if you can feel the clunk through the floorboard as well.

How much lift did you crank into the t-bars?
