Downey CARB Sticker Needed Got Cash $$$
« on: Sep 16, 2009, 06:31:57 AM »
I have been told by numerous people that I need a CARB sticker for this Downey header I installed. The header itself doesn't have a CARB plaque welded on it or an engraved serial number on it. Anyone have their Downey CARB sticker they didn't use on their trail rig? I will pay money for it. I don't want to have to take all this exhaust off again next year for smog just  because I don't have a CARB sticker.

Anyone? $$$

Call them.  I needed another one a year or two ago and they just sent me one for free.  Of course this was before the new 2009 California Nazi smog law changes.

I have a picture of the actual sticker. Anyone know where to get a vinyl sticker made where they don't make you buy 100 of them?

^^Exactly, or print it on white paper and use clear tape to tape it to the hood.  This is what I did for my K&N FIPK.  For the Jacob's electronics there wasn't a sticker, so I just made an official looking Jacob's logo w/the CARB number on it.  As long as the tech has a visual CARB#, he should be happy.

You can look up the EO (executive order ) here.  This is the list of numbers given to all legal aftermarket smog exempt devices.

I can have a vinyl 1 color sticker, made by our art guy, for next to nothing.  Let me know.

This is the exact sticker that I found. Let me know if you can get one made. I can have one of my friends Photoshop it for better clarity if needed.

Well then, don't I feel like an ass...  :hammerhead:  Looks like if I ever swap my headers over to another truck I'll be swapping the hood too since that is where my sticker is.

I don't know that there is any legal requirement to have the "sticker" be from the actual manufacturer.  I'm assuming that all you need is documentation of the the product and it's EO#.

Thanks for posting that picture.  I just got a smog tester who is being a pain about it.  Now it will cost me money for the sticker and the smog....

In Jan. 2011, the homemade sticker for my K&N FIPK had deteriorated enough you could no longer see the CARB#, I asked if that was going to be a problem, and the tech said they weren't required anymore, same for the Headers and the Jacobs electronics.  IIRC, all he said he had to do was list what mods were on the engine and smog test it.

With Downey out of business it is unlikely you are going to be able to find an actual replacement sticker, I would just print one out.

he pic above looks a bit big, the sticker size on my truck is 4" wide x 4.5" long.  Using the pic above as an insert in word, then shrinking the pic down to 4"wide will give you an almost identical size print out of the original sticker.  Just cover the printed copy in a layer of clear packaging tape, tape/glue it to the hood, and you should be fine.  All the tech should need to see is the visual CARB# displayed as per Downey's instruction on the sticker.

Yeah, I just printed it out on some lable making paper and it flew with him.... Now I just need to get the Nox down so it passes the low speed test.  I tried the RXP fuel additive trick a couple years ago when I had to smog it and it worked then, but this time it didn't.  I also changed up some vacuum hoses to get my EGR valve to open up sooner and retarded the timing as much as possible last time, which didn't seem to help this time so it looks like I'm going to have to fork out some dough for a new cat...... :hammerhead:

Temporarily adding back pressure will increase the EGR and should lower the NOX....

I put this after my cat for testing:
