Dual case info required
« on: Nov 02, 2004, 05:23:42 PM »
Hey Guys
Hopefully getting Marlins dual cases soon just want to know what to do with them when i get them.
When filling with oil do you have 2 filler plugs or do you fill thru the rear case filler plug ?
when fitting the duals do you use the crossmember on the rear of the case or on the crawler box??
With dual cases can you
1 Slip the front crawler box into low range and use it like a 2wd low range?
2 the front crawl box does the stick just have 3 positions H-N-L?
3 The rear case can you engage it into 4H and then the crawl box into low?or
4 is it better to go low 1st in the rear case before low in the front?
5 do you run with the front case in H when driving on the road or in N? i know i cant drive in 4wd on the road lolol.
As you can see i have no idea lol well a little havent got anyone in West Aus with duals so i wanna make sure when i get i dont f$%%k it up.
A lot of people in the east of aus use AA adaptors and duals and have a lot of problems with there rear case getting hot and the front so much they cant touch the stick, will i encounter this with marlins duals?
Thanks in advance
Dave
Big thanks to mike for helping get info on the setupfor me .

1 yes
2 yes
3 yes
4 yes, better in rear case first, unless you have an ultimate with 4.70s in the rear, then you can use stock gears in the front case with the rear in 4H.
5 high on the road, neutral won't get you far
Use the rear filler plug to fill.
Depending on how much lift you have you can use the crawl box for the cross member, but if you have a lot of lift you will have to move the cross to the rear case so the drive shaft doesn't interfere with the cross member.
By the way congrats on the crawler, you're gonna love it.

After i installed my dual cases i filled them with oil from the shifter holes.  I took out the fill plug so i would now when it was full.  I poured about half in the first case and about half in the second case.  I just wanted to make sure i got it into all the places.

Good call Hyena, I forgot that's how I did it too. No questions when you do it that way.

5. You run in high. As you stated you can drive in 2wd high or low by moving this shifter. :sly: I do this a lot before I actually shift into 4wd sometimes torque will get you a long way.  :driving:
