HILLBILLY = based on GEOGRAPHY...
REDNECK  = STATE of MIND...

Can you be one & not the other?

or are they mutually exclusive?

I think I'm both :gap:
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I always thought they were one and the same - and I don't think Redneck has anything to do with geography :nonono:

i think alot of people would disagree with me and im definitely not trying to offend anyone but in my mind hillbilly's are good old country boys and rednecks are ignorant, racist,hell raisin country boys that drink to much and wheel on private land.  :usa:

I believe that hillbilly can also be a state of mind, (thought different than redneck) as well as personal grooming habbits. :gap:

Because of my 4wheeling activities my co-workers all call me a "Redneck"  I tell them no. I'm a Hillbilly there is a difference.

Yes you can be both.

Hillbillies are people from, mainly, Appalachia. Good, honest, simple folks...the salt of the Earth. A specific geographic location.

Rednecks are the rest of us with any rural/country roots. We have been describes as...bitter clingers, Nascar fans (not me), gun totin', flag wavin', dullards...too stupid to come in out of the rain. Others may describe them/us as the back bone of this nation...the people who are responsible for most of what is America. I have known Yankee rednecks (and yes...I will always refer to them as Yankees!), Southern rednecks (me) and western rednecks. A state of mind.

Oh...we like standing out in the rain, 'cause it smells good.

What about simple people, not necessarilly from the hills, not from appalachia, don't like livestock, don't like country music or nascar, or even where cowboy boots or hat.

But love being greasy, muddy, bluegrass music, don't need to shower every day, likes the smell of grease, and gun oil, love car parts in the living room, would rather see the same freindly simple neighbor folk rather than high falootin shindigs and fake people, and yes love this country and work hard. So then what's that?

and I love being in the rain cause it smells good as well?   :greengrin:

I think hillbillies are more laid back than rednecks, but that is not to say they wont raise hell.  you are more likely to hear a redneck say "hold my beer, and watch this!"  lol, actually, that is not true, a real redneck wouldnt put his beer down, let alone let someone hold it!

red

nope a redneck will hand the beer over in certain situations where he/she knows the beer will spill if its not handed over.

I would modify this, by saying...all Texans are rednecks, but, not everyone who lives in Texas is a Texan! There are plenty of Yankees that have sullied Texas (as well as the rest of the South).

maybe if it was just cracked, but only to preserve the beer.  only half left, might as well chug it down first!  :beer:
