T100 tranny options
« on: Jul 13, 2009, 03:26:57 PM »
So I've found a really nice T100 with the only problem being that the trans is about to go.  Its a 97 with the 3.4 and an auto.  from what reading I've done on here, swapping in a 5 speed manual is a terror with all of the computer issues that need to be dealt with so thats out of the question (unless I've read wrong in which case someone correct me).  That leaves me with either rebuilding or swapping another auto.  I'd prefer something with an extra gear for low rpm's on the highway but off hand I can't think of anything toyota makes that would fit the bill.  So with all that said, I suppose my question is who is the toyota auto tranny guru that rebuilds these things beefed up or sells rebuild/new A340E trannys.

Sorry to hear Your having trans issues, Staying with the auto is the way to go....IF You can find a good used one from another T100 or 3.4 V6 4x4 Tundra that would be the way to go.

The T100 comes with 4:10 or 4:30 gears...You can swap in a 4:56 rear from 98-01 4cyl taco auto 4x4 and regear the front to match, that will give you plenty of pep and You can run 285-75-16 with no problems.
97 T100 3.4 auto with Chevy 10 bolt/44 front, sassed 6" lift
4:56's locked front/rear 36x14.50x15's

i have a 95 t100 i did the 5 speeed swap and didnt run into that many problems the cabs are already punched for the mastercylinder you jus have to drill out the bolt holes and main hole the clutch and brake pedal assembly out of a 90 to 95 truck will fit with the exception of the top bolt in whick i jus made a little bracket to fit your crossmember will not fit but toyota did put the 5 speed in the t100 so a crossmember would not be hadr to find the rear drive shaft is different legnth also so one of thoes would need to be purchased but the front remains the same as for the computer problems i did not run into any the wiring to your tranny will need to be trased and spliced in for your reverse lights and to engage your fron hubs with the transfer case other than that i cut the extra wires short and taped them off...your guage cluster will always read that your in park unless you replace it tho i didnt incur any problems with the running of the motor or starting bc the truck thinks its in park it will start in gear tho
