XJ spring swap?
« on: Jun 21, 2009, 08:22:01 PM »
Hi, I was wondering if anybody has ever swapped in a set of Jeep XJ rear springs in the rear of their truck?  I finally managed to snap a factory main leaf on my '84 4Runner running 36's with the overload and bottom leaf removed.  I welded the leaf temporarily in hopes of maybe getting another 20 minutes of run time out of it.  Anyways, my friend just swapped to some O.M.E. leafs in the back of his '98 XJ and I was wondering about the possibility of swapping his stock leaves onto my truck.  Just mocking it up it looks like if I keep the shackle hangers in the stock location and move the front hangers 6 or so (just geussing) inches forward, it will move my axle a couple of inches forward.  This would let me keep my stock driveshaft and I think maybe a couple of inches of lift, but most importantly more travel and a softer ride.  What do you guys think of this idea?

I think you would infect your Toyota with Jeep  :gap:

I think it would work well but an anti-wrap bar would likely be a must. I have a stock xj and the springs are just about flat. I've incorporated xj leaves into packs and liked them. A good option may be to use the top 2 or 3 leaves and then build the rest of the pack out of other leaves to achieve your desired ride height and stiffness as well as mitigate axle wrap
