I'm wondering what tires most of you guys are running with Longs, and how often you break them.  I have a birf elim kit in the front of my rig with the superjoints. I have already broken three of them and i'm running 37's with beadlocks at 5psi.  The axles have a lifetime warranty but i am getting sick of breaking them!  i thought they would hold up to 37's better than that.  So now i am considering Longs and wondering how much stronger they are.

well looking at their website it shows the superset is 630.00 and the hub gears are 65.00 each so that comes to a total of 760.00, plus shipping it would be almost 800 bucks.  but i still think it is worth it.  i'm so over my birf elim kit. its a PITA!  the axles are a pregnant dog to put together with the big u-joints, and i had to clearance my housing, and i had to replace my stock spindles.  so now if i want to get Longs i have to buy a pair of stock spindles because i sold my old ones!

yeah i could get a set of 1 tons from my boss for pretty cheap but its alot of work to install them.  plus my toy axles already have gears and lockers so it would cost alot more to get tons.  that would be my last resort.  i'm gonna get some Longs as soon as i can afford it.

well it might be worth it just for the fact that you can get new axles for free from the lifetime warranty.  and they will be stronger than stock birfs for sure but you will probly still break them.

here is some pics of the one that i just broke.  this break was less catasrophic than past breakage i have had.  the last one i ended up breaking both the inner and outer shaft into about four pieces each.  i have never broken a u-joint though.  i think the weak area is the narrow edges that wrap around the u-joint.  thats what broke this time. the other thing that sucks is when they do break, the snap rings and bearing caps get all chewed up and get stuck inside the knuckle when you turn it.  the inside of my knuckle is all beat to hell from those axles.
