tranny question
« on: May 03, 2009, 08:04:13 PM »
i put in a tranny that had been sittin around in a shed wrapped and taped up to protect it from moisture. I put it in a n 87 4runner and it came out of an 86 runner i think, it seemed to be good other then it was missing the nylon socket thing that goes on the end of the shifter. When i took it for a drive it seemed to be ok but when i got up into 5th gear it started making a constant whining noise. The other gears seemed to be fine i was just wondering if you guys have any thoughts on what that means.  Thanks

My 86 did that, I was told that it was the beginning of the end but it never failed. Big tires are the culprit.

Mine did that in 3rd and 5th gear, noisy and annoying...needs a rebuild, I think its worn mainshaft bearings
