O.k. how do you know if it’s external regulator or internal, and what’s the difference between green plug and black.

I just notice mine has one wire in the back which the 82 does not have, other than that, everything is the same.

No, No, and No.

4x4's use a BLACK plug and are 55 amps.
4x2's use a GREEN plug and are 40 amps.

2wd's use a mechinal voltage regulator, 4x4's use a electronic (IC) regulator with a charge light relay.
These two systems cannot be mixed up.

Check the color of the plug and do it right.

I'd listen to him, he might know a thing or three about Yotas...   :yesnod:
Isn't there a 3 prong and 4 prong alternator/plug? I ran across that a while back on my truck...

Yes, you are correct. :hammerhead:

To set the record straight:

The black plug 55 amp alternator IS used on some 4x2 trucks.
They are found on Canadian, and USA frigid zone pickups.

Living in Fresno with 110 degree summers, I do not recall ever seeing a black plug on a 4x2 truck.

Glad you got it fixed.

I think you need to check your timing belt chain; this has nothing to do with an alternator.  :welcome:to Marlins
