Steering with a stretched front?
« on: Apr 01, 2009, 09:43:10 PM »
Hey guys, I'm helping a buddy put a Corp 14 in the rear and a D44 in the front of his 84 sdr cab short bed.  We put a "Chevy SAS" front hanger in the front, but moved it 2 1/2" forward.  He mocked up the front end for steering today and said his box was too far back and the control arm might bind with the tie rod.

For Samurais, you can put a Chevy astro/safari van steering box in the front because that is a forward facing pitman, but I don't know anything about these Yota's yet.

What are his options if you guys are willing to share?
Stock 82 LWB on 33's welded in the rear.  Amazes me!  Been through 4 motors in 2 months though...

Either move the box further forward or get a fj 60/62/80 steering box.  It has a forward facing pitman arm rather than a rearward like the mini truck.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Thanks, WT.  The FJ pumps will bolt on, right?

the fj power steering bow has 4 bolts and the 84 has a crappy push pull steering box that is compleatly different, u will need to plate the frame and drill new holes for the fj bow. u will also need to do the same if u run an ifs box.

you moved the suspension and are using a design it wasnt configured for...... at this point, nothing bolts on anymore.... you will need to move the box, in a manner boggerrunner mentioned
