Auto tranny
« on: Mar 28, 2009, 12:27:26 AM »
I have an 86 Runner with an auto tranny. After a run in low 4, the AT light comes on and stays on for awhile. I was wondering if it is possible to wire up a mech gauge instead of the warning light? If so do anybody know of a supplier of a tranny temp gauge? If not can I use a engine temp gauge?
Why won't the DMV recognize mud as a color?

Having a 12 second Honda is just like coming out of the closet; You're going to surprise a bunch of people, but in the end you're still gay.

The temp light is coming on because the transmission is overheating as a result of going slow in low range. Most often this is caused by a faulty fan clutch. You are not getting enough air flow through the radiator and the auto is overheating. Add silicon to the factory fan clutch and/or add a trans cooler in front of your radiator.

I am hoping that you do not have low oil pressure and worn transmission componets.
The engine temp gauge will not solve the problem.
