whats a good price for a 3rz
« on: Mar 18, 2009, 05:14:15 PM »
whats a good price for a 98 3rz with (supposed) 73k, no wiring harness or exhaust man.  just the motor as it was when pulled. also it has no flywheel cause it was in an automatic.
I found one for sale just dont know what I should be looking to pay for it in its condition.

thanks all.

how much are you willing to pay?  does it run with no known problems?  I would not buy a pulled engine without hearing it run and without any guarantees--too many azzholes nowadays.

if this is for a swap into an older vehicle, I would look for a wrecked vehicle or a more complete engine with harness and all smog related equipment (cat, o2 sensors included).  you will be ahead $$ wise and less headache trying to gather all the parts.

curious...how much are they asking for the 3RZ?

just remember that all those parts that you don't have will add up quick.  how long are you willing to wait to find all the necessary parts?  if cost wasn't a factor, then i guess you could get those parts easily and quickly.  but i know there's a budget involve (cheap as possible) hence it'll be alot better finding a complete parts truck.

fwiw, when I did my swap, the donor truck/engine had a busted powersteering pump/reservoir and cracked exhaust manifold.  Took me 3 months to find those 2 parts for a smoking price...$35 for the ps pump and $50 for a newer manifold...

depends on where your from too. after i had already got my 2rz i found a 3rz in a wrecked 4runner at the junk yard. they wanted $550 for engine trans and harness. i ended up pulling the manifold, PS pump, starter, clutch/flywheel, and a ton of other little things. all those parts i paid $20 each for!

sounds fair if it runs, i got a compleate wrecked 96 taco for $800, but i had to buy a bellhousing, cause it got split in half from the rollover.  the front d.s. came into it.

3rz engines are hard to find in az and when you do they are pretty exspensive. So by my standards i would say its a good price.

I looked at it today and it has a distributor so not sure its a 98 I think its a 97, it looked ok, it came out of a wrecked truck so the distributor was broke and the water pump removed (dont know why) everything else looked ok and the oil was still pretty clean.

what do you guys think?

I'm still looking around to find a wrecked truck so I can pull everything at once, not sure yet still up in the air.

I would call rancho Toyota trucks and have them hook you up with everything you need for a 3rz swap. That way you get everything you need, aren't hunting for missing parts or wondering if the motor works. I'm sure they would be more than $450 but getting everything you need will be less of a headache. I bought a 2002 3rz from a wrecked auto trans and after buying new parts from Toyota like flywheel, clutch fork, slave cylinder, manual ecu. I spent way more than i was quoted for everything from rancho Toyota trucks. :twocents:

$1750 for a 3rz with less than 70k miles with everything needed for the swap.
