name that water sensor
« on: Mar 08, 2009, 08:25:36 PM »
OK so this has been buging me for a while and i can't find the answer.
I have a haynes manual and also tried here http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1993/index.html

I have a third water sensor  and i can't find it in any Manuel or what it dose.
the sensor gose in the  hole  with the " ? "
now i think it might be for the gauge  but i wanna see hard evidence of what it is.  I have also seen ref. for a "4wd  water sender"  <-- :dunno:

Looked at the wiring diagram for my 86...

The 4wd water temp sensor is a water temp switch.   Either grounded or not depending on temperature and has 1 wire...  (Green / black wire in 86)

Joe, is that not just a allen head plug??   it doesnt do anything besides being there,  if  you want get a  aftermarket temp guage and put the sender in that hole

In your pic, the "water temp" is the computer temp sensor. This important sensor, is retained by a metal clip.

The dash gauge water temp sensor has a blue plug and pushes on the male spade of the 17mm sensor.
It is located in the center of the intake manifold.
