dude i know how you can get a radio back in there if you still have that one honda one that was in it we just hook the wires back up

lifted_drifter

81- hahah yeah urs still looks hella dirty in your pics!

dniel- 700 bucks for the 60 and the 14 bolt? if i dont get them i guess there are alot of other ppl that want them. But i was kinda thinkin about this set of built yota axles too because i think it would be easier for me. I dont think im ever goin past 38s, but thats probably what everyone says hahah.

kyle- hahah i dont like mud that much, an yeah i bolted it to the frame.

4x4Haze

nice truck! i noticed in one of your pics the tube that connects to your carb looks like its still in the stock spot and mine sucked so much mud and water into it you might want to move it , i cut a whole in my drivers fender and reroughted it to there, and you should just keep the linked axel and link the thing!!
A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, "I'll serve you, but dont start anything."

lifted_drifter

Haha i wish man i dont really know how to do it that well though.
The chevys are going to be a challenge for me probably, i've never done anything like this before.

Yeah i was thinkin about just taking it off at that second joint and flipping it backwards tward the other side of the engine compartment or something!

dniel

700 dollars is a great price for 1 tons. You should get them as there is no real downside to 1tons except the cost and those are almost as cheap as toyota axles. Make sure the front is a 60 with king pins and not a d44 or a 60 with ball joints. You will be glad down the road if you go with the 1 tons now.

lifted_drifter

it was for sale on craigslist..........

dniel- i am retarded, it was a 44 and messed up

what is a kingpin vs ball joint?

dniel

The king pins came where in the earlier axles and are thought to be stronger. Probably the best axle to get would be a mid 80's chevy-gm. These are pass. drop and are common so it will be easy to find parts for. If you are serious about the one tons go to the tech section off the pirate home page and find the front dana 60 bible by Billavista. This will have all the information you could ever want. I would recommend a 14bolt or dana 70 for the rear. He also has a 14bolt bible in the same section. A chevy dana 60 will sell for around 800- 1000$. The cheapest way is to buy a 60 that someone has already built. Just do your homework so you know exactly what you want.If you have cash in hand and are willing to wait you will find someone in a bind who has to sell at a good price.

Soooooooo unfourtunately still being in HS i dont have THAT much money..........

But i was able to buy axles from gotrocks (minus longfields :( )
Got a good deal on birfields and inners from kyota :)

Anyways i completely tore down the axle on wednesday and i think today i have finally amassed everything i need to put the new axles/ springs/ hi steer on all at once.

Heres some pics of the axle tear down. I dont have any of it completely rebuilt but i promise it is. I had a toyota master tech to help me :)

lifted_drifter

I got a ifs steering box yesterday. For $10!!!! Probably the best deal of my life.

Got it with the pitman too and bought the adapter to use the stock pitman arm with my high steer drag link for another $10.

Oh extended brake lines too!!!!!

Jud

Looks like kinda how I started. Good luck and clean truck truck man.

TheCookieMonster

sweet. you got a deal on the steering box

lifted_drifter

Thanks Jud - Monday is the day of reckoning, stuff starts coming off!

Oh and i might have slipped him a  along with that ten dollars :)

But as far as were concerned it fell from heaven as i was handing him the money for the box.

Birfailed

10 bucks hell yes! Now take the money before you change your mind!  Kinda thinkin tons?  It's the way to go, they'll also help cover your ass a lil more when you mess a line up too. :yesnod:
Go 1-Ton from the start

lifted_drifter

Yeah kinda maybe when i have a more steady income then my shitty hs part time job though.

I read your build it is pretty sweet.

And all your go one ton from the start qutoes haha.

One of my buddys nieghbors is into jeeps and he was asking why i'm not putting tons or atleast fullwidth under it

He wants me to do 44 / 14 bolt like he has in his heep. I'm gonna try and break this stuff first. I dont think its gonna be hard with full spool/stock birfields :(

lilbuddy

you should bob the bed.

cheap. helps departure angles. looks better. and its cheap as hell to do.

take out 11ish inches and itd look tits

cool build. i built my old 81 and my 86 fo runna thru high school. when i sasd my 86 i didnt have a job either.
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

GET IT!!!

lifted_drifter

Thanks!

Yeah bob plans are in the works, I just wanted to get the suspension and whatnot done first then the bed should be easy, and i can paint it a cool color!

The real build pictures will be coming on monday when i start takin stuff off!

hopefully everything goes smoothly, i've tried to learn from my friends mistakes :)

axled89

hay man. some time when you get it all together and want to come back to mcminnville we'll go out wheelin.  nice lookin rig.  looks like a solid start.
i love oregon wheelin.

lifted_drifter

Yeah man! Thx for those brakelines too it was like the last thing that i needed!

Is there any good spots around there?

axled89

yeh!  i work at the steel mill. good place to work.      hey man there is tons of wheelin around here. we got the trask mountains which offers alot of good trails. some tough mud pits.  and of course we have browns camp. which  is just a damn good time. auh!   it's full of good trails and hill climb's.  lot's of rock garden's.  real kick ass place to go. and not to far.
i love oregon wheelin.

lifted_drifter

Oh shoot i didnt realize that you were so close to browns camp.

Yea we clocked McMinville from Battle Ground where i live and its about 70 miles!

So its not that bad, and my truck could probably pull off the drive too! :)

lifted_drifter

Started on pulling off the axles today!!

I really dont have any pictures of doing it, because i was doing it (haha)

BUT there are like 4 cinematic shots of the truck on the lift with no axles!!!

lifted_drifter

Thats as far as i really got today.

I also started to mix the stock rears and the front lift spring pack.
I wasnt really sure how to do it so ill post some pictures of what i did.

The first pic is of the rears (on top) and the lift springs i had.

I removed the two from the rear ( the overload the previous owner used to lift and the other one idk what it was) then i took the very bottom one from the lift pack and added it to the bottom of the rears.

The second pic shows what the pack i created looks like.

Ideas / opinions on how you think this will work?

lifted_drifter

I am also having a super hard time getting out the spring bushings on the front of the rears so i can switch them to ones that will fit in the front hangars.

Tips/tricks on removal would be appreciated :)
