I'm going to sas a 2nd gen 4runner, and I'm trying to decide if it's better to use a full kit with the springs that come with it, or to do a rear up front spring set up right off the bat. How big of a difference is there, and what are the pros and cons of each setup? I would not want to do the typical setup with the springs that come in the generic kit and then be bummed 6 months down the road that i didn't RUF. Let me hear what you think if you have experience with both. Thanks.

If you want easy, go with a kit. If your willing to put extra effort into making your suspension work to your liking go ruf.  :twocents:

the ruf put the axle further forward, and are free with some time .
bought ones are expensive but are a plug and play

I have always been worries about rufs sagging
but for saving 300 I guess its worth doing a few times

Rockcrawlintoy

why not buy a kit and make a hybrid leaf pack with the ruf like kiyul4130 did with his truck. he used some RUF and his marlin pack to make a kick ass leaf pack

I figure I can probably buy a kit and substitute rear springs for a couple bucks if it makes a significant difference in articulation. Is it any more difficult to install them as opposed to the shorter ones? What is different about installing them?
Thanks

Go with a kit, because it comes with everything you need.

Hyena

if you build them right they won't sag!

And now I have his old top two leaves  :haha:  It's cool, I don't really want to lift my truck a lot or move the axle way forward, so they'll work just fine for me whenever I get off my ass and set them up!

Do RUF's use the same front hanger location and just move the rear one? :dunno:

RUF little more work but i think it works better and you save a little money.
When in doubt throttle out!

yjay

So, do you move the rear hangers back? Do the front hangers stay the same? Is the articulation waayy more?

So you don't have to put a drop spring hanger? And how big boomerang shackles do you use?

Rockcrawlintoy

i have a drop hanger. but every setup is different. i dont have boomerang shackles but my shackle hanger is below the frame so i put it wherever i wanted

Did you make your own drop hanger or did you buy it?

RUF!!!!! thats what I did on my old toy and I loved em! they are comparable to a marlin spring.... if you build them right. I put mine up against a marlin front spring and they preformed just as good.... For way less money!

Thanks ThatHOKid. That's cool cause I can weld but am just starting with yotas. Let me know if you need any welding. It sounds like the main advantage to the RUF is cost savings? I'm cool with spending the bread for a kit cause it sounds like it makes it easy and new parts are sweet. Makes me feel like a kid at Christmas. :) I usually build most of my own garbage, but sometimes new is worth the price.

i went with them because they move the axle way forward thus requiring less lift to fit big tires.

i used the 48 inch ones. if i didnt i would have had to inboard the shackle hanger since i used a dana 44 with a narrower spring perch width than toyota.
