yeah I used f150s front and had to inboard the shackles because the springs are so long

Hey Yjay, also man, keep an eye out for a 90-95 4Runner V6 SR5 for me out your way, I am still looking.
I can make it out your way easily. I'm there quite often. hopefully this damn flu goes away

I dont think the 51" RUF springs would have any advantage.  the 48" ones most of the time can easily max out a 14" shock, having any more flex than that is retarded and you are going to have driveshaft and steering issues.  I did and would again go with RUF without a doubt.  You can bolt them right into your stock hangers without any issues

Rockcrawlintoy

yup i was maxin out my 13 inch shocks no problem

hmm  i guess ill just use the 48s then, i have both so thats why i asked. sweet that means less work!

Jordan7118

My vote is for 48" RUFs.

You need to search on Pirate for more info.

I used first gen rears from a 4wd with a set of 3" lift springs (they weren't really a lift...) cut down on the bottom.

Save yourself $300 or so and build the springs.

THK Matt

if you have the $$$ to spend on the kit.... screw the hassle.
yeah RUFs are nice.. .and you gain 1" more of forward placment.... you can always swap out the main and military wrap for a rear one.. if that extra 1" is needed. I'll give you a hand in installing your kit. we can knock it out in 1 weekend.

I'll keep my eyes peeled. 22re 2nd gens aren't too hard to find, especially on the west side, are you sure you want a 3.0?

Yeah I am sure.
better platform if I have to go 3.4L or 4.3L TBI
and they come stock with slightly lower axle gears.
and if you're patient and willing to spend a little money.. they can be a decent motor.
plus the 22RE is underpowered for these heavy pigs IMHO.

So yes V6

when you think you'll need me to come down and help you swap that pig?

I went with rear up front because the spring packs are already broken in. I have more faith in used Toyota springs than new aftermarket. All of the suppliers keep changing manufactures, you don't what you have until after you run them, then its to late. I made my pack with two rear sets, three long leafs on top. and cut to fit the rest. A chop saw with cut off wheel cuts them like butter. I ended up with a total of seven leafs in each pack. There is plenty of room for 37's (I installed them) but i'm running 35's. As for the rear...I went with 63" Chevy's. This may be a mistake? The ride height is perfect, truck sits level, but I worry a little about axle wrap, (springs are soo long).

It's probably gonna be a month or two. I need to sell the jeep and buy my wife something so I can commandeer her cherokee. Then I can build at my pace, unlike on my jeep where it always had to be ready by monday. I'm gettin' itchy.
I knew I had to have a 22re when I used to watch my uncle pull a stock trailer with 6 cows in it up the road to his place in 1st gear pegged for 3 miles over and over with no ill effects.
I'm not going to get anywhere in a hurry, I just love them. Hoping for only marginally disgusting mileage, but we'll find out.
My 93 v6 runner auto got 13mpg always.

at the moment.... I don't wheel hard enough to need any tcase upgrade.
when that time comes. Ill swap in a R151F (22RTE 5spd) and run dual 2.28s.

For now stock engine/trans/tcase will be fine for me.
main thing I want to swap out soon as I can afford to, is axles and suspension.

well that's the logic choice.
DD status is the only reason I chose not to and stay Toy Axles.

Thanks. I don't think I'll need much physical help, just lots of info. Let me know if you need any welding. I've got torches and a flux core welder, and my buddy down the street has a new 220 mig that's sweet. Glad to help whenever I can. I fancy myself a pretty fair welder, you can look at my work and judge for yourself. Just got done putting a hp dana 44 under my buddy's cherokee, I built the upper control arm mounts with rubicon express superflex joints instead of the typical rubber or poly ones. I also just built a rear traction bar for my rig with weld in inserts and 1.25" qa-1's. Kinda long drive unfortunately.

The thing I liked best about the ruf is you know exactly what you have. When I was doing the suspension on my old for runner alot of companies were selling Chinese springs and there were alot of confusion about who was selling what. Stock Toyota springs are made from very high quality steel and rarely break even with repeated negative arching. They are already broke in and should not sag very much. If they do sag their doing you a favor so just cut your fenders.

I used the 51" rears and they flex great and ride like a caddy on the road. To use these you will need to buy or make a front hanger and move it forward.

so you saying you don't know what you're getting when you buy AP or MC Kits or springs? they use the same spring company...

if you have a lot of money and have nothing to spend it on get a kit... but if you like to save money and have something that works just as good or better build your own spring packs. all you need are some old springs, brain , chop saw, and a tape measure. then you can spend your money on things you cant build  :twocents:

yjay

I built the springs for my yj. It wasn't that big of a deal. But when I looked at buying all the sas parts I'll need one at a time, it costs about the same as the kit but you don't have the springs :dunno:
I don't have a lot of bread to work with, but the more I look at the kits the better deal they seem to be for all the stuff you get.

what mix of springs did you use, iwant to build mine right the first time
