problem with transforcase

my transfor-case is stuck in neural any idea why?i was putting some new bucket seats in it and the shifter got bumped in to neutral and know i can get it to go into gear.

My transfercase did that alot. the problem with mine was the tip was worn down and it would somehow pop between the shifter forks for the transfer case. the way I had to fix it was by removing the snapring holding the TC shifter inplace, pull it out, then if posible restab it.

Usually though where the forks ended up it was easier to take a long screwdriver and shift it into 4wheeldrive hi (both shifter forks in their forward positions) and then restab it like that. If you have to shift it with the screw driver make certain you shift the driver side fork foward first.

It's the bushing, replace it and it will not get stuck between gears. Basically (actually) what happens is the shifter tries to move both shift rods at the same time locking in neutral.

this is a very common issue with samurai's.....

not sure how old this thread is, but your problem is that the shifter sheet that the shifter rides on is worn out. You will need to pull the shifter as described above and then realign the shift rails. then install a new poly shifter sheet. Everything will be back to 100%
