How about a grass-roots movement to remove these worthless idiots from office. We put them there and we should give them an ultimatum to get this budget or face termination of their duties. This has got so ridiculous that they can't do anything, what a bunch of pansies.

The problem is, the logical people who actually want to see some action and responsibility comprise a small percentage of the population.  The vast majority of voters are incredibly ignorant and pander to the left.  That is all.

I am neither a political expert nor a fiscal expert, so I may as well toss in my oversimplified :twocents:

A)  The state has spent more money than it had to spend, leading to a huge deficit.

B)  There are two basic solutions -- either can be used, but using both might be more effective. The solutions are:

1)  Spend less. Doing this means some people will receive less goods & services than they are accustomed to. In some cases it may mean a cutback in hours worked, a reduction in pay, or perhaps even loss of employment.

2)  Increase taxes.  Nuff said.

Neither measure will be terribly popular with millions of voters.  In fact, state legislators supporting those measures may well find themselves removed from office (there's that pesky little job loss issue again).  Not that my opinion matters, but I favor 1) over 2).

In my view, that's probably why our elected officials would rather sit on their hands than take any firm action.
But what do I know -- I'm just an old guy who somehow got through life spending less than I have.   :gap:

my theory:
california politicials and illinois politicians are the same organism... most likely a parasite of some sort and they all share a brain the size of a nucleus... working on extending this theory to all politicians... but some dont fit the bill

2)  Increase taxes.

I have to disagree on this one, mainly because it involves taking more money from those who are having a hard enough time getting by as it is.  A lot of people live paycheck to paycheck, beit through poor choices or luck of the draw, and those will be the people who suffer the worst from increased taxes.

There definately is a spending issue as you said, and I stand behind not only withholding the politician's pay until they pass a budget, but I don't feel they should get back pay when they finally finish the job.  What better incentive is there to get a job done than not getting paid unless you do?  I couldn't go to work and discuss work all day, let alone do it for months.  I'd get fired!  Yes, pushing them to get it done quickly could lead to a poorly assembled budget, but it's not like this is the first time they've ever done it either!

I'm supposed to be able to do an engine swap in about an hour, 2 if there are issues, but preferably about 45 minutes - that's fully runable.  Could you imagine if I showed up and told a customer "I should have this done somewhere between an hour and 3 months"  :haha:

We actually have, or have had, some very good representetives from the area, but far norcal isn't nearly as liberal as the rest of the state.  Everything I've heard about Doug LeMalfa (sp) is that he's a very stand up guy with a great head on his shoulders and great ethics.  I believe he just served the last term he could, but is going up for a higher seat.  I wish I had more on this, but I'm usually half asleep when the late news comes on.

These politicians are digging their own grave. I think that enough people in the state are getting fed up with this, and are starting to pay attention to who their representatives are. Hopefully when election time roles around again, we (the proletariat) will hold their feet to the fire. I totally understand how difficult it can be to get a consensus, let alone total agreement (except when it comes to impeaching an idiot governor), but when we're facing such dire consequences, it's time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. I for one will not vote for the senator/assemblyman from my area again. Not because he's a bad guy, but because he's been there for a while, and it's obvious he can't get the job done.

alas tis true that come election time our elected officials shall see the light... from those of us that work and pay taxes... but:

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out facts of 2008 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29

Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won: Democrats: 127 M Republicans: 143M

Murder rate per 100,000
residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won by Republicans was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. In contrast, Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare.

Professor Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

the people sucking at the public teat are beginning to out number the taxpayers... take a look at sweeden or one of several other countries in europ where it is better to live off the government dole that to work because the tax rate. take a look at how crappy thier economies are even compared to ours they were bad before... working individuals getting taxed enough to make it better not to work.. nothing like getting punished trying to make a better life for yourself... its where we are headed now

Yes, and as I noted above, I favor decreased spending over increased taxes.  My point was simply that more money flowing into the coffers would help balance the budget, same as a wage increase would help boost the savings account balance.

Sadly, the more money you give to politicians, the more they will spend.  (Some households operate this way too).  I am convinced that if somehow We the Taxpayers ponied up enough cash to pay off all government debt plus build up a huge reserve, our politicians would soon have us again swimming in red ink and be demanding more from us.

What?! I've always said that they are a bunch of retards. It was one of the reasons I left the state and want to again. These people are absolutely pathetic, but the worst thing is "WE" put them there (at least the majority did) and sadly they still stand behind them. The only one they want to lynch is the one that wants to do something about it.

I've visited different states and for some reason they seem to be improving the infrastructures within their states, spending the money visibly. Arizona is a good example, hell you can't drive anywhere without running into different state projects. They don't call it the road construction state for nothin'. Now in California you're not dodging road construction you're dodging potholes, potholes that will destroy not only your suspension over time but take out your rims and tires immediately on the spot.

A good example of their refusal to repair the roads and related parts of the roadway is about a year and a half ago I saw a lady loose control of her car on Highway 62 going from Morongo Valley to Desert Hot Springs. She center punched  the guard rail right at one end and collected about 20 ft. of it. As of today that damage is still there. In fact her hood is still there too. In Arizona it would have been fixed within a week or two.

I agree, with the exception of Pima County...unfortunately that's where I hang my hat. We have the biggest gaggle of do nothin' flaccid weenies I have seen "run" a town. Tucson is a cesspool of democrat good ol' boys to rival anything Illinois has to offer.

Perhaps...I should have said ' get y"all riled" instead "you".

When I was in Quartzsite this month it made me yearn to return, drove out to that saloon on the mine site and couldn't believe how well maintain everything is. Nice smooth highway all the way to Buckskin, then once back in CA you could just tell the difference almost no maintenance. Just what was good enough to get by.

If only voters who voted for Obama could all see what BIG government has done to Cali. (and NY, NJ, OH...)
