Yes, the '82 trans would be a great upgrade Especially if it has the 80 mm front bearing............3. Trim floor board as required to convert to the top shifting L52 trans.
Hey Marlin,How could you know if its a L52? Chances are its a L50 since the L52 was not available until 11/1982. The L50 that the truck most likely had does not have a 80mm front bearing but rather a 75mm input bearing, plus it would have a non-sealed output shaft bearing.BOOM! BIGMIKE IS THE TECH MASTER!!!!!!!!Whattcha got?! --> BigMike
Speaking of Trans identification...I just got an 81' t-case and what is believed to be an 83' 5-speed trans with t-case in trade for some tires on rims. I'm looking all over this Tranny and I have no idea how to identify it. Any hints?
yeah, but wouldn't it still be better than the stocker L43 i have? makes a LOT of noise in reverse(been doing it since i got mad at somebody cutting in front of me in the gas station line, dumped the clutch in reverse )

I got a 1980 toyota 4x4 pick-up got the 20r four cylinder and the l43 tranny 4 speed. The l43 is no good. Like to put a 5 speed in it how hard is it?
Yes, the '82 trans would be a great upgrade Especially if it has the 80 mm front bearing. You will need to do a number of changes to install the trans.1. Two lower bellhousing bolts, they are longer.2. '81-'95 clutch slave cylinder. [Do not reuse the orginal fork return spring.]3. '81 and newer release bearing with collar and fork.3. Trim floor board as required to convert to the top shifting L52 trans. [The old L43 was a right hand, side shifting 4 speed.]4. To match the transmission output coupler, the oversized transfer case input splines will need to be ground for clearance.Marlin
Is the l50 or l52 the way to go? I dont need to pull it for a 5th time
To wannabe tech master ------you stinkCheck your source before you post Marlin
I have my old L52 up for sale. $75 obo.It turns out it was a good transmission the grinding noise was a bolt from the engine bellhousing sheild rubbing against the flywheel.Mine just needs new output seals on the t-case. It comes with the slave cylinder and the shifter fork.Bryan
