Ok this is maybe a dumb Question--- I have a clean 90 ford 1 ton 4x4 crew 460 printed balanced
Hughs e4od pulls likea champ ..oh yeah lifted blah bla bla..anyway I'm thinking about getting a
older dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 w/cummins , and looking for an older model likemid 90's for fuel mileage I've heard they do pretty good and be able to haul/tow.
So my questions are what is a good year in the 90's OR am I just being STUPID ?  and just keep [BIG WHITEY]:driving: :inthedark:

go with the dodge, ive got a 90, and i love it, simple and easy to work on, the 94-98 still have mechanical injection, and more creature comforts.   plus they are easy to get huge amounts of power out of.  my 90 reg cab long bed 4wd is getting 20 mpg with a few mods.  ive got bigger injectors, tweaked fuel pump, bigger turbo and exhaust, and a k&n 4" intake

ive got a 5 spd getrag, i haul my 85 excab to moab a couple times a yr, not supposed to take hills in overdrive, but i do. its got 274,000 miles and still running strong. the 2nd gen 94-98 have the nv4500, great tranny, but dodge still recomends not to tow uphill in overdrive.  my buddy has a 94 3/4 ton, and he hauls a 32 ft goosneck with a 11 ft truckbed camper and his 87 excab on it alot too.

i have a 96 dodge with a 92 engine and i would not trade it for anything. i can run 60 up any steep hill without issues. if you get one just remember smoke is just money flying out your tail pipe

mine has the VE pump, great for starting in cold weather, ive only plugged it in twice this winter, and it has to be really cold for the heat grid to even want to warm up.
the 94-98's have a P7100 pump, they make great power and they start really good too.

how much?  not that many miles for a cummins

TheCookieMonster

ive got a 93 Dodge 4x4 with the cummins and i love it. i got the 5 speed manual and it tows great. the trans isnt in the greatest shape but it still kickin. its got 267,XXX and still running great. mine starts decent in the cold weather, once it warms up a little it does fine. mines all stock with the pump turned up a little, 4in. exhaust, and a K&N. it could use a little more boost but overall is a great truck  :beerchug:

He's asking 5800.00 , says the body and paint are a little rough...are all the early
cummins turbo ? you mentioned the 94-98 had a different pump for easy starting..maybe I should look for a little newer model.?

5800? wow that is expensive, it better be in great shape with half those miles.   i got my 90 3/4 with 260,xxx miles for $2000.

my buddy just sold his 94 reg cab  with 210,xxx miles for $5000

the 91.5-93 had smaller injectors with tuned down pumps

mikenreynolds

I have the '92 with turned up pump, 4" no muff exhaust 240K and fires up instantly always. 23mpg is my best and 15mpg worst. I wouldn't mind the newer body style though.

boggerunner

we ran a few local truck at the dyno yesterday, and my buddys randals 01 24 valve got 498 hp and 1015 ft lbs of torque and marks 01 got 507 hp and 925 ft lbs of torque.
