go with a 1st generation 4runner and do a motor swap and then youll have what you want

I am still unsure, I found a 85 4runner for cheap. I asked if he would trade for my 87 s10. We will see what he has to say. Then I will go from there!

3rd gen is going to cost probably double in the long run to build all the way with more adapters and nontoyota front axle, more expensive body parts.......... ask me how I know

No one has asked but what kind of budget are you working with? I think a 3rd gen with a supercharger, duals, 37's or 40's, armor, e-lockers, some HID lighting, and tube doors front and rearrrrrrr would be sweet but realistically its way out of my budget right now.

But on the other hand a 1st gen with a 3.4, duals, 40's etc. gets it done too.

Whatever your budget or goal I'm sure it'll be tits. Good luck man

i think budget is the key really, and your ability to do the fab.  Mossy had a removable hard top for his runner at one point

i still think you should sit on it for a year and wheel you truck on rocks, that way you will actually have a better idea of what you want. couse theres really no way to fully know what youd be happy with if you haven't been rock crawling yet, but thats just mine and chrises  :twocents:
