My dad bought a 1982 Short box truck a couple years ago. He picked it up for 500$ at a repo yard right next to his work. Probably has one of the cleanest bodies i've ever seen or close to it. So last winter he spent most of the time rebuilding the wiring harness for the truck seeing as the PO chopped it all to hell trying to do a V6 swap. He also started restoring the interior. As for the interior he has about 95% of the parts to make the truck completely stock inside. But now comes my turn to do what i do best. My plans for the running gear of the truck are pretty simple. Hes just going to use the truck for hunting so nothing really complicated. Just a 3" TG long travel lift kit would use marlin but they dont make a 3" kit. :( Lockers front and rear 4.88 gears, winch, bobby longs, hysteer, rock sliders, smitty built front and rear bumpers. (he wants to keep the old school theme) along with a few other odds and ends. Heres how the progress goes so far.

then i took the front axle out tore it down to a bare housing removed all the bearings and seals rebuilt the lock outs and hubs added some armor (more to be added) and a new coat of paint.

thats pretty much up to date im waiting on parts before i can go any farther into putting the axle back together.

That's a great deal for $500 :yikes:  Do I see venison hanging in the background  :gap:  Just a thought, but if it's only a hunting rig, why swap out for about the same amount of lift?  Will he really need the long travel springs?  Why not pull a leaf from the marlin 4" springs?
RIP KYOTA

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!

Okay a little change of plans on this truck. I've got the axle rebuilt with everything but he hysteer gears and locker, just waiting on a wheel bearing then it will roll again. I bought a 1st gen truck a month or so back for the cab it had a straight no rust frame with good fuel tank and like i said no rust. The frame my dads truck is sitting on is so goobered up from the PO trying to do a V6 swap that it isn't worth the time to try and fix. Now were going to get the truck rolling and roll it out of the shop. Bring in the new frame cut off all un necessary brackes weld on a few new ones and set everything out of the truck onto a new clean frame. Prob going to take a while so dont get to impatient on updates.
