d60 info

so if there has been many topics on this let me know, i couldnt find any.

i just warped my toyota front housing and im pretty much building a buggy.
if i have to buy a new housing im just gonna get a dana 60.

my question is, how beefed up does a d60 need to be for a not to heavy toyota on 40's?
would i have to get chromo or maybe just some better u joints and a spare?

a d60 and ctm ujoints and chromoly shafts should do it

have to grind the calipers a bit to fit inside 15's
not needed to run just 40's but a basic built 60
35 spline outers -cromo everything- ctm's long's or long's cv's- drive slugs

sorry im not understanding that. are you saying i need 35spline outers and full chromo and ctm's to run 40's. or i dont need all that stuff. i assume by drive slugs you mean drive flanges? idk

if you keep the 4.10s in it your going to be fine and probably wont break the shafts for awhile. it will put stress on your transfer case though and can cause output failure. if anything just get some 35 spline outer stubs and hubs, some high steer if thats what you know you want to run and gear the axle and you should be fine.

how strong are the arms that are cast into the knuckles. whats a good brand for steering arms. sky?

you mean how strong are the knuckles right? where the tie rod bolts in, there strong. i have WFO's high steer kit. its really strong and the arms are really beef, yet super simple design. basically most all of the aftermarket stuff for a 60 is pretty beef. id stay away from random aftermarket stuff off ebay though.

thanx for all the info. how about in the rear? im assuming since stock toyota shafts are strong enough for 37s, stock 14 bolt FF shafts should be good enough for 40s

a rear 60 would be fine. dish whatever you want at the 14bolt.

kyle nailed it.  keep the 4.10s and upgrade your cases.  Dual ultimates with chromo output and youll be set.  ive been running the stock 30spl outters on mine all year with no axle carnage, where last year i was breaking D44 Chromo axles every trip.
