Transmission interchangeability?
« on: Jan 08, 2009, 11:43:57 AM »
I currently have a 1985 reg cab pickup, it has a 22R in it. I am pretty positive the transmission is a G52 5 speed. Its all stock, nothing has been done to it. I have a 1987 22RTE that I am going to put in. Its a complete motor. I will be putting a new clutch in because hey, its out. I noticed the part number for the turbo clutch is different than the R and RE clutches. Anyone know the difference? Is there any other differences I should be aware of? My truck runs fantastic, I have all the parts to swap EFI on and could still do that, but I would really rather drop this running turbo motor in to it instead.

I am assuming it will be a bolt up to what I already have, engine mounts, transmission, etc?

the RTE has a bigger flywheel and heavier clutch,  if you use the trans that came with the turbo motor you'll bolt it all right in

you will have to have the computer from the turbo truck and engine wireing harness

all I have is the motor and all related accessories, wiring, etc. I don't have the transmission. All I have is my existing G52 that is currently in the truck behind my 22R. Are you saying that won't fit? I am not terribly concerned about how long the G will live behind the motor, its trailer only.

none, but in the three years I have owned it its gotten maybe 3000 miles, very little street only trailer and rocks :) I have read its a weak transmission, but what the hell, if it breaks I'll get another one :)
