new to here.. trying not to "show new replies to your post"

i have been reading this forum for a while and glad to be a member now....

i didnt want to start a new topic so i highjacked my first one...

when i  respond to a post, i can click on "show new replies to post" and see who and what is
going on...
but when i am done with it i still get it in my "show new replies"..
are they any way to stop getting to do this when im done with a post...(not a post that i started)
just one a chimed in on...
