Electrical short?
« on: Sep 02, 2004, 12:55:08 PM »
well,

my truck just died on the way home, all the lights dimming and what not. so i replaced the alternator with a new one, and same thing, no charge. so i jumped it thinking it needed to charge a little. came back later and same thing. lights going dim and then nothing. the battery is new, new alternator. i am lost for ideas.

so any ideas?

My head is cloudy as I just woke up, but there is a charge relay and a charge fuse you should check.  When an alternator is on its way out it spikes the voltage and takes other items along with it.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

You could just check all the fuses in your truck.

sorry it took so long but i just put in a timing belt. ok there is a headlamp control relay right next to the efi fuse should be silverish. so then next you can trace the red and yellow wire back from the rh headlight and the red and green wire from the left headlight and both of those wire should lead to the combination light and dimmer switch. then there is a red and black wire from the rh head light that changes to a red and green wire after a 10A fuse which leads to the hi beam indicator light then splices over to the head lamp relay and the left headlight has a red and white wire that goes into a red and green wire also after a 10A fuse and also leads into the head lamp relay in the engine compartment right next to the efi fuse.
Hope this helped some how
