Thinking about a Titan!
« on: Nov 29, 2008, 04:01:00 PM »
So I love the Nissan Titans and want to get one. So what does everyone think about one of those as a tow rig. Would just be towin a 1st gen runner with camping stuff. Any ideas???

I just dont like the body style on them. The nissans look sexy as hell with like a 3" on 33's. I just dont want to go with a ford or chevy. never been a good fan of them.
I thought that it might work ok. Here in AZ I see them pulling big @$$ boats all the time so why not a 4runner.

My brother had a titan on 35's and it got horrable milage! And my other buddie has one we took deer hunting (stock) and it got horrable milage compared to the chevy 1/2 tons. towing just a little car trailer with 4 quads it was getting about 8mpg. (i know someone will chim in and say they have one that gets like 30 mpg but that is the honest truth to what they got)  it had plenty of power and looks cool but wasnt what i would want to fill up all the time when towing. just my  :twocents:

I really like the titans.  Wanted one real bad for a while.  But then Dodge came out with the lifetime warranty and I decided to go that route.  And I have been pretty happy.  But Titans put the power to the ground like no other.

I am not going to buy one for the gas milage. I just love the look better than the yotas. I just was interested if anyone had had some experience with this truck pulling. I just wanted to know how it did!

I know they had a problem with the front brakes warping (at least when they first came out), but I have not heard anything about Nissan fixing that issue from the factory.  Does anyone have any info on this?

I had the smaller Tundra with the same 4.7L engine and as much as I love the truck I wouldn't have used it for heavy hauling.  It was capable of towing certainly, but not really an ideal tow rig.  That is a wonderful engine, but I would want more low end torque for towing.  The new 5.7L Tundra's are likey a different story and certainly a better looking truck.  I always thought the previous body style, like I had, looked "soft."

They did fix the break thing.  And even if you get an older one, if it ever went to the dealership, it was fixed.

The thing that did worry me about the titans was the rear end.  Danna 44 is super cool and all, but for that power and that tow rating, it just might be out of its league.  (I think that Nissan realized this also, hence the finned alum. diff cover on the 06's (?) and newer to try and keep the temp down and that 44 alive.)

x2, excellent tow rigs. may not be the fastest vehicles around but they will tow/control anything you ask.

the titans are good to pull the load your looking at, just get trailer brakes and expect single digit fuel economy

I have a Titan with 35's on it for a work truck.  I can say that if i was to buy one for myself I would never lift it.  It handles like crap and gets terrible mileage (11 not towing).  It will tow the load you are looking at even with 35's but the brakes will warp if you do any quick stops.  Also, the steering rack will blow apart if you lift it and wheel it.  Eric
