FJ-60 Build-Up
« on: Nov 04, 2008, 04:49:25 PM »
Well since I've had a few people ask and the Cruiser forum has been pretty dead lately, I figured I'd throw up a condensed build of my 85' FJ-60. That and I'm pretty bored with the whole no job thing still.  :rofl2:

The initial plan was a 2-3" spring over which is pretty easily done but the body work around the rear tires (quarters and rebuilding the doors) made me shy away from it.

Here it is when I got it. I planned to run 39.5 Iroks so I set one next to it.

Got it thrown into the garage to make it a bit easier to work on.

The top end of the motor was off when I got it so it had to be put back together. Weak-Link was assigned that task.  :haha:

Then I got the front end taken out.

Threw the front end on my bench to make it easier to work on.

Got it stripped

Then started cleaning off the frame.

Got the caster set and everything reassembled.

Built a diff cover affectionately known as the batwing. Here's the template.

Welded to the front diff.

Sleeves and custom length 30 spline inners.

Drilled and tapped the PS box.

The truck is getting an SM465 so I had to rework the nose cone. Marlin gave me a hand on that.

As is obvious by the last pic, the shackle angle needed a bit of work.

Heres the front hanger.

Better angle.

Rear third got welded. Heavy wall driveshaft installed.

A buddy hooked me up with a sweet exhaust system. If you need exhaust work in the area, get ahold of DHONDAGOD. One of the few willing to take the time on a full custom exhaust.

And the first outing this past weekend.

No one with me to take action pics but the suspension works great. Needs a bit more trimming.

Heading for Surf N' Turf this weekend.

This is probably my favorite Fj60 build ever!! Very nice work!! I love your rig. Cool idea with the rear fenders, are you going to fill that little gap in?

The 40 got parted out. I was going to try and keep both but I'd rather have the family with me on Dusy and Rubicon than run the Hammers solo.

Yeah that's the current project. I'm hoping to have it done before this weekend so I don't load up on sand.
