Or viewed as sexual objects, but I just saw a Dove deoderant commercial that shows this cute little brunette playing around and shaking her ass... because deoderant is that exciting   ::)  They know what a commercial like that really says, so does this mean they're asking, or worse yet, begging to be ogled?!

No kidding.  On the topic of commercials, who the hell approved this one? :headshake: I don't usually let commercials bother me, but this one makes me cringe and I have to change the channel or mute it and look away.  It infuriates me.  Discuss......

Do you guys understand? Or is it a woman thing? :headscratch:

So far the only ones that agree with me on that one (that it's sexist and disrespectful) are women... guess it must be a woman thing.

I don't think it's sexist...against women. I can see how it would be a continuation of the playing down of men's worth in portraying men as simpletons or buffoons.

Or, it could just be a commercial using a play on the relationship of snacks being used as pacifiers for babies.

I'm not sure how it could be seen as sexist though, and it certainly doesn't infuriate me.  :gap:  I just think its annoying, and, well, stupid.

Same here.  I too mute it and look at something else, because it's seriously one of the dumbest commercials I've ever seen, but I don't see it as sexist.

I have not seen either commercial, but it's a well known fact that sex sells. We all know that as men we like to be viewed as attractive by women (except for gay men, but who cares), and women like to be considered attractive by men. It is, unfortunatly part of the human experience. The logical leap here is that if "I shake my ass, I'll be sexy, which means that men will find me attractive, and so if I use this antipersperant/makeup/whatever then that will make me more attractive". It's all a bunch of BS, but we fall into this trap time and time again. Most americans are not smart enough to figure out that "they" (read: marketing specialists) are trying to play us, which they are.

Some study somewhere found that sales will increase by almost 40% if they use an attractive male/female to advertise the product vs. the average person. For whatever reason, "we" try to see ourselves as that person on the screen, and somehow convince ourselves that if we use that product we will become like them and therefore be more attractive to the opposite sex. Believe me, they have whole classes on this subject. it's insane.

As humans, we seem to be driven more by our instincts than logic. Reproductive success comes from reproductive opportunity, which marketers want us to believe comes from brand x.

OK my rant is over, I now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

The way the model acted on the Dove commercial is trying to show off her good results with the said product. The model didn't say anything, she was just acting in front of the camera in regard to the product she's endorsing. And yeah, women should be treated with respect, and not treated as sex objects.

on the note of comercials. i hate the dog one with sarah macgloflin (yea i know spelling isnt right) singing "in the eyes of an angel" gotta mute that one

How is shaking and wiggling your ass to the camera showing off good results with deoderant?  Did she apply it to her ass?  And how do you SHOW good results on tv with a product designed to cover/stop smells?  Do you have some special smell-o-vision tv I don't know about?

And EVERYBODY should be treated with equal respect.  That's what fueled the women's movement, but that's going in a different direction and isn't what I started this thread for.
