Well im starting another project with the truck..... I bought a 22ret from a friend. It had 250000mi and a blown head gasket cracked head and seezed turbo... So im gonna have the block bored and decked. Im gonna run an EngBldr re head with the 22ret bottem end. Im gonna swap the lapped ct 20 for a ct26 and also use Arp head studs so the motor can handle some boost. Should be a project... pics of the turd

it would be 100 times simpler..and you dont have to worry about old crappy wiring to deal with.

not to mention more power..

id say if you got room for that 16? gallon fuel cell, you got room for at least one LP tank mounted long ways. But whatever floats your boat..I pieced my propane stuff together for a 1/3 of what the gotpropane kit costs. Trust me I was gonna buy it, and  Yeah its all there in the box when you get it and its a really nice kit, but a little extra of my time running around in my geo is not worth an extra $600.

Ya i thought about it but i dont wanna deal with LP all my friends run fuel... If your at the hammers and run outta gas u can bump 5 gals of ne one... LP is a little harder.

Fair enough. I wonder if its gonna be a pain for me, since I drive to and from the trails. Oh well 104 octane dood!

In your case I hope they are runnin 92 octane then... or ping pa ping ping ping

You're gonna have to if you plan on running a built 22ret..or any turbo car for that matter. or else plan on some detonation.

what are you gonna run for fuel management?

thats kinda why I mentioned propane, in the end it will be cheaper with more reward. And less hassle.

Im running stock fuel and ing for now. I wanna run around 9 or 10 psi

stock ecu is only programmed to 7-8 psi.. maybe less like 5-6. So if you want more out of it, you're gonna  have to add megasquirt to your ecu(never messed with it but its cheap) or buy a whole nother stand alone system. my old 4runner had a 22re turbo with an SDS engine management that ran on 10 psi. The stock ecu cant put out that much fuel, or timing advance to run that much boost over stock.

Is propane starting to sound better yet? lol

Dude you can run 10lbs no problem! I'm running 14 right now. I had to turn the afm 4 clicks  to stay out of the fuel cut off. My buddy is running the same set up on his truck for the last 3 years with a stock head gasket and head bolts. Last year he stepped up to a bigger turbo and some rc 380 cc injectors and an afm from a non turbo supra. It lasted 1 year before the boost line melted and and the turbo spiked to 25lbs and popped the head gasket. 22rte-trucks .com is a good place for info on these trucks. Good luck!

Ya.. Im new to the turbo thing. What turbo are you runnning now? Im gonna run studs and a Kmetich head gasket. I joined the turbo truck.com fourm but i never got excepted ha guess im not cool enough ha.

I'm running a cheap made in china turbo from ebay. It's a t3/t4 and I got an exhaust manifold from ebay too. The turbo will last about 3 years or so. I couldn't justify spending 1100 bucks for a garret. And at 140.00 the price was right. It came with oil lines,gasket, and the V clamp. I had to get a 12mm to 4 an fitting for the block and make an oil return line. For the return line I used some 1/4 plate and 2 nipple fittings then had my local tractor shop make the right length hose. I also needed to clock the turbo up a little. You just loosen the bolts on the turbo and rotate it up. I have no body lift on my truck and exhaust clearance is tight.

Nice! So your running 12 psi on a stock head gasket? Thats hard core. got any pics of your set up?

No mine has an MLS head gasket. I used stock replacement forged pistons,moly rings, eagle rods and it's all balanced and blue printed. I bought new head bolts. My builder said it would handle 12-14lbs no problem. And since my buddy ran this same set up on his old stock engine I didn't doubt him. Lukes truck had over 200,000 miles on it. After I put full exhaust on it I expect the boost to drop a few pounds. I'm still thinking about some arp head studs though. I might step up to an SDS engine management system. I'll take some pics of the motor this weekend and post them in the newbi section.
