Fair Comparison? Jeep vs. H2
« on: Sep 26, 2008, 08:41:32 PM »
I was just watching a youtube video that was bashing on H2's.  Ironically, the first scene shows an H1 seemingly stuck on a hill that I could probably drive it up with a flat tire, which means the driver was the problem not the rig.  I was thinking, that comparing a built Jeep to an H2 would be like me posting a video comparing my built 4Runner to the Jeep Compass.  It's a Jeep isn't it?

I'm not trying to start a rig bashing thread, but I was entertained that SOME Jeep owners like to compare their Jeeps to other brands and generally choose one that was designed for mall crawling, just like several current Jeep models like the Compass that is proof that Jeep lost their way.

Jeep Rubicon vs. H1

Standard YJ, TJ or KJ vs.  factory stock Toyota's

Cherokees vs. FJs

H2 vs. Compass vs. RAV4

Am I making any sense here?

I can't argue with you, but this isn't about which rig is superior, just what comparisons might be reasonable.  Too bad the driver makes a big difference as well.

You just about sumed it all up right there.

Has Jeep steered away from their "trail rated" theme?  sure... they're appealing to the masses... majority rules and everyone wants to be rich.

Happens all the time, and it happens on here too.  People frequently compare some mall 4wd to a built rig then scoff when they don't net the same result.  The only comparison is a fair comparison.

So where's the link to this video? It is true and everyone seems to do this type of comparison. What needs to be done is equal comparisons, pit two equally set up rigs and see how far they can go before they can no longer move without help. That will show who has the best rig. I love wheeling with well set up rigs and staying with them on the trail. Sure there comes a point that they can out perform me but on most average trails I can go with them. I remember when the Rubicon's first came out and we were getting in line for a run at Panamint Valley Days, this guy thought he was sooooooo cool in his new Jeep. That is until he got stuck on a berm on the side of the road and had to be pulled out. A lot of how well a rig will do has to do with the driver, and his/her knowledge of the trails and the vehicle. My daughter has an H3 and she won't even let be drive it cause she knows I'm going try and find its limits. I also have an H1 at my disposal and I know how far I can take it and what you can do with it. Over the years I've found that set up right just about any 4x4 can go most everywhere you want to go. I remember when Samurai's first hit the trail everyone laughed at them and said they'd never compare, granted I feel that they need more extensive mods to make them hardcore over a Toy or Jeep but out of the box fun with just minimal upgrades they will go just about anywhere since they will skinny through the tough stuff, it's when they start having to climb over stuff that they lack. But hey they're easy to roll back over and off you go again.

My opinion... doesn't matter how equal the two vehicles are, it's all going to depend upon the driver.

This one most picks on an H1, but the drivers obviously the problem since it doesn't look difficult to me.

Realistically, I can say without a doubt that the Rubicon jeep will outwheel any other stock rig on the Rubicon trail. I have 5 years experience with these vehicles on the Rubicon and I have seen it work. Granted you put an equal driver in each rig of course.

Bench racing wise I'd agree, with the what the Rubicon comes with from the factory it would out distance just about anything out there.
