Don't let any clothes that are worn in the sand in the tent.  Change from sandy clothes to pajamas or whatever right before you go in, wear flip flops to the tent door, sit down in the opening, and take them off, leave them outside (tuck them under the edge of the tent) and brush your feet off, pulling them in after you've brushed them off.

Leave the tend closed (vents and all) throughout the day, don't air out the tent.  Sucks, but you'll get sand in if you do.

:dunno:  thats the best I got, treat the tent like a "clean zone," and the sand as the "hazardous material."

I find its easier to sweep it out than it is to keep it out.  :gap:

Nope, sand pretty much gets into everything, so just plan on cleaning it out later. Focus on the fun, not on avoiding the sand. Believe me, you'll find sand in places you never knew you owned.

Stake the tent on a larger piece of tarp or tyvek.  Couple that with taking off the shoes outside the tent and that'll help, but I usually sit backward in the tent and wipe my feet off before I get in.

right on thanks all
i am thinking maybe put a cheap welcom mat at the entrance of the tent for him. hopefully we can put the tents in the middle of all the trucks. i have seen people put sand or wood to block some wind too. might try that too. this kid has a tough life so i want to make sure he has a good time. if he gets some sand in the tent i dont mind.
thanks again

I always lay a large tarp before erecting my tent no matter where I go to keep dirt out. Keeps the bottom of the tent clean and dry too. Ever notice sometimes that the ground is wet under your tent when you close it up and dirt is sticking to it? Sand is sand and it seems to get where it wants to go no matter what you try to do to stop it. I still try to minimize and at least control it to the best of my ability.

The tent is the smallest part of your trip there. Do like the others have said and just shake it out or sweep it out as needed. Unless you're gonna put a tarp down the size of the beach you won't keep the sand out. Hell, I think I still have sand in my trucks from the first time I was there back in '90. Been going ever since.  :disturbed:

Either way have fun!  :beerchug:  What weekend you going? we're going in Oct. too!

the sand here is a different beast. it gets every where, it gets into your soul.
there is no fighting it
we are having a dust storm right now.  sucky
home soon though

fordh8r if you are going in oct you should go the 10th-12th for the pismo 4runner jambo. there is a thread for it here. I went last year and had a good time. i am really looking forward to it this year.

thanks all for the advise.

bring big trap to block the wind and sleep on air matress  so it's not so cold at night

sleeping on a closed cell foam mat would keep you warmer or an insulated type air mattress otherwise you have cold air directly under you.

Wish I can afford to go both weekends but we're all set for going the week after. Besides I'm bringing my Toy Hauler and my fullsize rig and my bikes to ride in the dunes.  The Toyota won't be going.    Wish I could make it that weekend, sounds like a good time!  :beerchug:

Are you going that weekend?

fordh8r you cant push your trip up one weekend? you dont have to bring the yota just hang out with the group. the only reason i am going is to meet up with folks and hang out.
as long as every thing is good with my truck i will be there.
my truck has been sitting for 7 mo now.

I would if I could, it's just that we're meeting with a good size group of friends the week after who have already planned their time off and such to be there on the weekend of the 17th.
