all terrain choice for my dd? Your experiences wanted.
« on: Aug 03, 2004, 11:34:16 PM »
OK my Yota 4x4 has BFG MTs but thats my "toy", pun intended.

I love BFGs and have had over 6 sets both 3 ATs and 3 MTs. But... they are expensive.  That's ok on the 4x4.

My daily driver is a 2wd Ford Ranger.  This is mostly road vehicle but I do take it into the mountains and down dirt roads so I want an all terrain tire in 235-75-15 (at least it has a limited slip)  The stock Continentals suck big time.  Chunks came off the tread blocks when I drove on a dirt road.

I really don't want to spend over $100 a tire for BFGs for my dd.

Which ATs have ya'll used?

at tirerack.com the Kumho Road Venture AT 825 got good reviews and is $60 a tire.

If you have a Les schwabs anywhere near you Id check out their sxt mud terrain.  Even though they call it a mud terrain its a real tame tire that wears like iron and does real well off road.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

The Kumo are good tires...atleast the performance tires are...You could get  some deacent tires at Pep-Boys for under 100...and you could buy a warranty on them so its all good

I had 33" Mud Terrain Radial SXT's on my truck before the mtr's.  They did pretty good on and off-road.  I can't remember how much they cost though.

Here they are on my truck.

I've got those on the Tahoe 31's though, BTW those are TXR's, for the money you spend at Schwabby's you can get a name brand, going with a set of MTR's next time.

Hopfully the tires look a little better in this picture.

Hes getting them in 235/75 not 31 so the cost is gonna be way down.  I cant find the new flyer but I think they were going for like $75 in 235

$131.00 for a 31x10.5x15 when I got them in '01, more now for sure, the only thing that looks different is the center lugs so sue me  :slap:, I know I'll never buy another set.

If I were you I'd suck it up and buy the BFG A/T's.  I bought a set for my old truck, 1992 Toyota 2WD in a 215x75R15 and they were $91 per tire.  That would be the best way to go IMO.  So if you were gonna get the 235x75R15 they'd be about $105 per tire.

I guess I should've said they LOOK exactly like TXR's except for the minor changes to the lugs
