Hello! Late to the party not by choice!
« on: Nov 04, 2020, 07:11:06 PM »
Hello all! My name is Ed and I like to party hardy. I’ve been snooping these forums for the last year or two learning all I can about building Toyota’s and picking up tips and tricks along the way. Currently I’ve got a 1980 Pickup 4wd project in the works and daily my 1998 4Runner with some small modifications! I’m just a youngin turning 20 and the end of the month and have missed what seems to be the golden era of these forums but hopefully some of you will follow my posts in the upcoming future!

I’ll definitely be starting a thread on my 1980 pretty soon here, I’m about to start rebuilding the front axle hubs then I’m going to truss it and throw on my high steer setup. The truck right now is just sitting at a buddies place a half hour away but I’ve got it completely torn apart to a bare frame cause the old one was rotten but I found a home built one for FREE!!! Only had to drive half an hour out to get it  It looks pretty good and the welds are decent (coming from a red seal welder) so I’m just gonna send it. I just gotta figure out how to post pictures on here and how to work this whole old school interface

As I read through this thread this morning and thought about the rebuilding and restoration process, I did a quick search and found this interesting article on a 1988 Toy pickup V-6.

It has practically nothing to do with a 1980 year, but has some interesting comments and documentation on the whole process of rebuilding and restoration from purchase to sell.

I question some of his numbers.  He owned the pickup for 8 months.  He starting working on it immediately after purchasing it.

He only has 90 hours of Labor??  What is his definition of labor?

Yeah I believe I’ve flipped through that article before and it didn’t seem completely accurate. I’ve got at least 20+ hours invested as it is and have only worked on it a handful of times since purchasing it last year. Lots of it sitting at more than one friend’s place :ha_ha: only had the chance to drive it 3 times since I got it. Big plans are in the works though for the ‘80
