I am new to the board.  I''m from Missouri and am building an 83 toy.  This picture was taken before the cab came off for the second time...  See below for an explaination...

I tried to upload a pic, but the file was too big.  I will resize the pic and try again...  The truck is an 83 toyota 4x4 PU.  Actually it started as two 83 toy PUs.  I bought the origional for $300, started it, drove in on a trailor and pulled it home.  I wheeled it for a week or so, noticed some noise in the tranny, then stripped it to the frame to check rust damage.  I also checked the tranny and found a couple teeth broken off the main drive gear.  I found another 83 toy with a good tranny that I bought for $300 for parts.  The cab was in better shape than the one I had, but I had already started fabricating the other one, so I stuck with it.  The floor of the origional cab was in bad shape, the corners rusted completely out around the body mounts.  The frame had some rust damage too.  I re-fabed the frame, and added a stronger rear crossmember, the one the shocks mount to, as well as replacing the other rear crossmember and welding in a custom reciever hitch.  When that was finished, I gave it a good coat of black rustolium.  Then I started on the cab.  I welded new metal in the floor and cut the firewall back about 2 1/2" to 3" under the fenderwells to fix future tire clearence problems beforehand.  I knew the old 22R was probably not going to last much longer, but decided to set the cab on and run it until it quit.  I put 35"  BF Goodrich A/Ts on, which fit due to the earlier fab work on the firewall.  At this time I had not modified the suspension.  I took it for a test drive and in the process threw a rod.  The engine just didn't seem to hold good oil pressure with that big hole in the block.  I found a 22R down in Houston, from ASP Motors.  I road tripped down to pick it up.  When I got there the 22R was a 22RE.  The truck is set up for the origional carb on the 22R.  The guy told me that all I would have to do is swap the intake and that the 22RE actually ran better with a carb than the 22R...  Anyone know about this?  Anyway, I took it home and lifted the cab off again to finalize my fabrication and install the 22RE.  This finished, I set the cab back on just in time to deploy to Iraq...  That is where I am now.  My brother recently installed a 3" Skyjacker system, to include shocks and rear springs, for me.  At this time, I am trying to decide whether to swap the intake or buy a Stand alone Digital EFI system for a conversion...

Well that could be a movie in the making  I would go with the EFI if you can and never look back.

I have decided to go with a 38mm Weber carb kit from Downey Off-Road.  I am going to swap out the EFI intake with the origional carburatored intake that I have on the old 22R.  I was going to also order a performance intake to go with the 38mm carb, but that would obviously lead to installing performance cam too, and escalate from there :eyebrow:  So I will wait until I get farther along with the project for that.  I am going to focus on putting it back together for now.

I am from Southeast Missouri.

I just bought another toy while I was home on leave.     A 92 4x4 Shortbed.  I will get pictures posted as soon as I figure out how to downsize them.   :dunno:  The bed has some damage, so I have been looking for a replacement.  I may end up going with a flatbed...  While I was home I installed a 2" body lift.  I like a 2" body lift because it gives me more clearence between the engine and firewall.  An extra couple of inches lets more air circulate under there and is helpful when removing the top bellhousing bolts, ect.  It also increased the clearance for the new 31X10.50s.  I installed a K&N kit, changed plugs and plug wires, put on a new distributor cap, and installed new shocks.  I mounted a  small tach on top of the steering collum and replaced the bench seat with a set of APC racing seats with 4 point harness.  I ordered a Northwest Off-Road header and exaust system, but it didn't come in while I was home, so I will put it on later.  I plan on adding a computer chip as well.  I am going to swap out the timing chain with a dual chain from Downey.  This truck is going to be my daily driver, so as of the present, I don't think I will be adding a lift kit.  I am going to replace all the factory bushings with poly though to improve handling.     I am going to swap the factory front fenders for Downey's fiberglass front fenders and was thinking of fabricating a custom flatbed and mounting fiberglass rear fenders to replace the damaged bed.

As for the 83 project, the 3" skyjacker system installation is complete and I am looking for a 38mm Weber carb for it.

I forgot to mention the Flexalite Black Magic electric fan and the Venom 400 performance module that I have and plan to install on my newly aquired 92 Toy as soon as I get home.  I found a good bed that happened to be the same color and had it picked up last month.  I plan to get it mounted ASAP.  The rear slider is currently being replaced with a new tinted one, and the side windows are being tinted to match.  I will also install a pre-runner style push bar on the bumper, as soon as I find a suitable one to order, with a set KC Titanium driving lights from NWOR and replace the running boards with a pair of chrome nerf bars to match the chrome front bumper.

As for my 83, I found a donner wiring harness, so I will probably end up either completely re-wiring my 83 cab or swapping cabs completely.  I will have to take a look at the donor cab and make that decision when I return home as well...

Yeah I get the props for the bed!!! Shoot some pics after you get it put on.

DeMented Toys

Finally home from Iraq!!!!!!!  Now, time to finish the toy projects.  Since I got home this past Tuesday, on the 92 I have pulled the engine and tranny, replaced the timing chain with a heavy duty chain with metal guides from LC Engineering, and swapped out the tranny due to the origional one slipping out of 2nd and 4th gears.  Today I put on the new bed.  (I will try to take a couple pics tomorrow)  I also installed the Black Magic electric fan....

As for the 83, I checked out the EFI wiring donner cab (88 toy 4x4) and it is in great shape, with little rust.  The frame is in good shape too.  I think I will put the engine and tranny from the 83 on the 88 frame and just use the 88 cab, that way I won't have to rewire anything.  I will have to measure to make sure, but I think the rear Skyjacker 3" lift springs will fit the 88 frame and I will probably order SAS spring hangers from Marlin and use the front Skyjacker 3" lift front springs that I already have from the 83.  If anyone know if those springs will fit, I would appreciate the info.

I still have the tranny and transfer case from the 92.  I haven't had a chance to pull it apart yet.  It won't shift into 3rd or 5th.  I think the fork is just bent a little so it shouldn't be hard to fix...

I am still waiting for the insurance agent to stop jacking around and do his thing...  The rear bumper and reciever hitch are smashed and the frame on the drivers side has a slight wrinkle just in front of the rear spring shackle.  The bed has a bulged out place just behind the drivers side fenderwell, and the drivers side rear bed corner is dented in and the tail light lens broken.  The front of the bed made contact with the cab and dented it each side just below the rear window almost even with the door handles, and the brand new tinted sliding rear window popped out, but the glass didn't break.  And it broke the exaust off from the muffler....
