« on: Aug 06, 2008, 10:16:02 PM »
found a guy that wants to take an amphibious vehicle from right about where im flying out to pick up the truck to MS. trip is 750 miles, vehicle weights 2k lbs. he wants to buy a trailer to stick it on to have me bring it out on the way back. my concerns are making sure its a quality trailer not some pile and that it has electric brakes. what do you guys thing per mile would be a good cost?

That sounds fair to me.  But I would definentely tell him if the trailer is a POS then the cost would almost double due to the safety factor.  I would also get something in writing saying that you will receive payment upon delivering said product as well as a release of liabilty in case something happens on your way there to deliver.

true, i told him it must have breaks and not be a piece, never thought of the double price if its not. was going to have him wire me half the money before i ever picked it up.... i looked in florida classifieds and they move boats for 3.50 a mile... is .65 too cheap? i really know nothing about the cost other ppl charge but i would be stoked to have my diesel paid for :)

I'd prolly just go a buck a mile :dunno:  Seems fair to me.

I'd also not just make sure the trailer isn'ta piece of :pokinit:  I'd require

1)copy of the insurance on the trailer
2)copy of the bill of sale for the trailer
3)copy of the bill ofsale for the vehicle
4)signed/dated/witnessed statement of agreement to transport, and the financial arrangement.

I'd also do a very throrough inspection prior to starting the trip, signed by his rep or the guy you're picking it up from prior to moving it, and backign that up with photos.  Just cover your ass in every way possible

you need to figure your cost per mile then go from there

duromax should get 20 mpg,  $5/gallon   750 miles

750 miles x 20 mpg = 37.5 gallons
37.5 gallons x $5 a gallon = $187.50 in fuel

750 miles / $187 = $4 per mile

i would charge at least half,  so $2 a mile MINIMUM  or you ARE doing him a freebie

its 24 cents a mile think about it if it was 4 dollars a mile he would be getting almost one mile to the gallon thats just fuel cost

you need to figure your cost per mile then go from there

duromax should get 20 mpg,  $5/gallon   750 miles

750 miles x 20 mpg = 37.5 gallons

Don't forget the "unseen" wear and tear on the vehicle, insurance, depreciation etc. hard to calclate all that stuff, but it helps support more $$ / mile. Now if you were going to make the drive anyway, it may not help much. I'd say at least $1-2/mile.
