Motor Mount Rippage!
« on: Aug 02, 2004, 12:22:21 AM »
Hey all! Ripped a motor mount today playing around in some sand- Anyone know where I can score some bomb proof aftermarket models for my '82 shortbed that wont vibrate my teeth loose? Stick with stock? I'm all open to suggestions here-

The funny part is that my friend in his Jeep broke a motor mount today as well in the same sand pit AT THE SAME TIME. Really wierd, I guess it was motor mount breakage day. His mount broke in half like BAD however and Jeep motor dropped and tilted several inches, coming to rest with distibutor and oil filter bearing the weight of thhe engine.....It went home on a flatbed after I towed him to the pavement. Poor Jeep. My Toy just vibrated as I drove it home with the busted mount....
Oh yeah how do I disable the floating turtle please as well.
Thanks!

3 links of chain for both sides and a new or used mount and you should be fine.

The solid motor mounts are more spendy and VVvvvviiiibbbrrrate like a mother..I did the same thing jarod said..use the metal plate that goes with the mount  to weld to and 3 links to the frame..
Forgiveness is between them and god..

Cool deal, thanks for the advice!- So are we talking large chain links here? How many inches about do you suppose?
Do chain links rattle around under the hood and make noise?

Yea,,the rubber mounts still take vibration but when they flex out the chain act as a stop of so tha mount won't bust..

My motor mount just broke today.  I think it might have stressed it too hard when i flopped and now it just popped.  I was driveing it today a little ways from my house when it popped and jerked the whole truck.  Got out and saw my transfer case is now sitting on my crossmember.  The drivers side mount decided to go up and is not in the right place.  I have a buddy that might have the right kind of mount for my engine.  I won't have time to work on it since i am install9ing dual cases on James's toyota (the white one with brand new 37's).  He already has a 4.7 gear in the tranfercase and just got in the first case and adapter today.

They are nice mounts, except they suck to install and they arent all that great for dd duty as they make a hell of a racket.

I have the rockstomper mtor mounts and they aren't too bad, I have rubber bushing on my seat mounts and I fixed as many rattles as I can.
Common sense just isn't that common anymore

I found out y my motor mounts cost was low.  They gave me a 2wd motor mount.  It wasn't bad though.  I just had to drill out the 2 holes on the outer part.  Saved money though.
