So, how FREAKIN'   :yikes: hot is it gonna be next month down there??  We'll be there Aug 9th thru the 12th!

We are attending my wife's 20th class reunion there!  West Valley High School, class of '88.  And I just crapped my pants after seeing Redding at 114* yesterday!  :yikes:  :toilet2: :yikes:  And don't give me that, "It's a dry heat!" bull crap!  I've been in Fresno when it was 116* and it was too damn hot to drink beer!  :outtahere:  We will be at the casino and then Whiskey Town lake.  Luckily we will be at Howard Johnsons in the pool!!  :wink2:

Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

Mrs Stocker & I went past Whiskeytown late this afternoon and it was incredibly smoky -- couldn't see across the lake until we got to the upper end.  116* when we came through Redding...   :ack:

No telling about August, but today was the hottest for now and it's supposed to be in the high nineties by the middle of next week.  And yeah, Nate will be happy to tell you when the smoke will clear...

I seriously have no clue, but august here usually sees temps lingering just over 100 degrees so I'd expect to be sweating!!  And don't be surprised if it's still smokey, I don't doubt some of the local fires may still be smoldering by then, if new ones haven't flared up too!

Nice!!!  I'm not looking forward to being in that heat, but we will make the best of it.  At least, the next time we go to Disneyland, we are going in March.

Yeah, last week it was hazy here along the Oregon coast, because of those fires.

Some friends of ours was ordered out of Concow 2 days ago.  They stayed and helped dig fire lines as long as they could.

I wish I could hook up with some of ya guys from that area, but our schedule will be busy.  LaDawna, 4THEWKN's widow, will be hooking up with us while we are there too.  So, it will be cool to see her and her mom between the reunion plans.  Maybe another day!

I'm betting its worse than that.  Its gotta be that bad over her in Reno from all the smoke.

I believe it.  I'm over the mountains, and visibility isn't more than a mile, if that.

Cheesie, it's a good thing your trip to NorCal won't happen until a few weeks from now!  Highway 299 west of Redding (to Whiskeytown Lake) has been closed several times due to the fires...  Whiskeytown Recreation Area is still closed.  Hopefully things will be better soon, but I'm hearing there has been a lot of fire activity there.  It's a shame...  that's always been such a beautiful place, and I'm almost afraid to see what it will look like after the smoke finally clears.

I think the fires are staying well above the lake.  When I was out there swimming the other night I could see some of the fire, but it was still well up in the hills.  It looks like damage, if any, will be on the far side of the lake.  I'm just bummed I can't go swimming there right now

Big Mike (no, not that one, the other Big Mike) came up Monday morning before the road closed again and said they back-burned everything on the north side of the highway from Memorial Drive to the Whiskey Creek bridge... As of Saturday, none of it had been burned.   :shakehead:

Just found out a friend of mine lost his house, g/f parents and grandparents lost all their houses in Concow.  I hope it calms down and the smoke clears out by then.  I don't want to be stuck indoors due to smoke!

I must be in the minority, but even on the worst days the smoke hasn't bothered me.  Despite the warnings not to, I've actually been running my swamp cooler during those days and the house smells like smoke, but I don't seem to have issue with it  :dunno:

Sorry to hear about your friends losing their houses, I think they said something like 50 houses burned in concow.  They also found a body that had burned in concow too  :yikes:

Oh yea, on the news they said 3 people were burned by the fires in the whiskeytown area.  3 mexicans came out of the woods dressed in camo and had all been burned.  They suspected they were up to no good...

Edit:  news just said it was 4 mexicans, 3 of which needed medical attention.  They're detaining the 4th.

Yeah I heard a radio report today saying that the Humbolt fire East of chico was arsen. Theyre offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who gives information leading to the conviction of the suspect(s).
