i have electrical issue
« on: May 14, 2008, 01:37:43 PM »
My issue is when i drove it today it seemed ok but shortly after slowly going through dirt and up a little fun hill, i was on the street driving about 20-30mph. when i think all the lights come on and then the truck just dies?? wtf. so i start back up and i drive to the stop light where it dies again at the stop light urgh, so i start it again and get home. SO ??
I looked and cannot seem to see any loose connections? What could it be alternator/battery? or the wiring system something faulty?

My bad the one bolts up to the frame it chances are it got lost a long time ago. But i would bet the mud and water are what is eating them up. I've that a few times with guys around the house try to make you something that would keep the MUD/water out and see what happens if not it couldn't hurt

oh ok thanks. i removed all of mine oops a long time ago. maybe i can get something to just protect the alterntor itself like hard plastic around it that bolts to the alternotor, i will have to ask around.
it will probally go to the shop to make sure its the alternator and not something in the wiring then i can i fix it myself. thanks.

Don't put anything around the alternator itself, it will probably overheat

hmm... I am going to use some red rubber gasket material when I make my splash guard cuz mine are all cracked and broken. I get for free from my dads work, but its usually really expensive. It is used to make gaskets for pipes in refineries and stuff like that.

Do you have the metal "skidplate" that mounts at the front crossmember? I bet if you don't have that either it would be hard to keep an alternator alive.

I think they are useful, but whatever, not driving thru water/mud would be a smart plan too.
