Electrical help
« on: Nov 22, 2006, 09:03:20 AM »
I am in the process of putting an engine out of an 89 4runner in to an 86 x cab I thought I could just swap the wiring harnesses but I was wrong has anybody else ran into this? or does anybody have an easy cure? everything plugs in ok except one plug, it is one of the two that are not plugged into the computer here is a pic of the two different plugs, the yellow one is the one that matches the truck but the grey plug is the one that is wired to the engine. and it does not look like I could just swap the harnesses because it does not look like all of the plugs match. ANY help would be much appreciated.

Jim

If you still have the motor and wiring harness out of the 86, just swap it and all of the sensors to the 89 motor. it should be the same motor, the factory just used different plugs on the sensors and wiring harness for the 89 motor.

Im not sure about the fuel injectors, i would think you would be able to swap the injectors into the 89 engine (or the injectors and fuel rail from the 86 on to the 89 engine) if you still have the 86 engine you could just swap the whole intake on to the 89 engine. from 84 to 89 these engines are pretty much the same except for carb and efi.
