i swapped beds because my old bed had some rust holes in it and my beer bottles would wiggle out, plus it had a bit of damage, i also like the 2wd style better

Dude, sweet rig. You made a really sick truck. You pretty much have done everything that I'd like to do to mine. I've seen it a couple of times up in the hills, and I was actually there when you flopped in the snow. I was riding passenger with tittiecrawler.  :gap: What are your upcoming plans for it? Are you gonna get a paint job?

thanx I appreciate the kind words, yeah that was a sweet flop huh? Right now im in the process of upgrading the front axle again....... Im putting on the skys widening kit, and IFS brakes with FJ cruiser rotors. Also Im puttin in the ARP knuckle studs, and marlin HD inner axle seals, and all new wheel bearings. My truck is gonna be super wide up front, because im keeping the 1.50" spacers up front. I have also started the primering of my truck, im hoping to get that done for winter, and then paint it next spring.

The only thing that sucks with widening from the knuckle out is your scrub radius is getting farther and farther off.  At least you putting in the ARP studs though.  Nothing sucks more than breaking studs.

Think of it this way.  If you drew an imaginary line through the steering axis.  Whether is be ball joints, trunnion bearings or strut.  There is an axis that the steering rotates on.  That line goes at an angle to the ground.  Then if you drew an imaginary line through the center of your tire to the ground they technically should meet at the same point.

\     |
\    |
 \   |
  \  |
   \ |
    \|
This is called steering axis inclineation.  Or Scrub radius as some call it.

What happens when you put wheel spacers on or/and low offset wheels (3.5 bs 2.5 bs etc) you begin to move the vertical line farther and farther away from the steering axis.  This then makes the tires scrub (scrub radius) when you steer it instead of steering properly on that axis point.  It begins to look like this.

\                |
\               |
 \              |
  \             |
   \            |
    \           |
     \          |
      \         |
       \        |

This puts a negative affect on your steering and reduces its effectiveness.  This can create bump steer and poor handling   Also you can ruin your trunnion bearings and wheel bearings prematurely because of the added stress.  Also your knuckle studs are more prone to break when you put your tires further and further out from the steering axis.

I will try to post up some examples when I can get my scanner up and working.  If you guys want to.

I hope this makes sense.

Thomas P

yeah it makes sense, i always knew that stuff was being affected negatively but i had never had it explained to me
