There is a difference in length between the Fj62's and mini's, but unfortunately I dont know what exactly the lengths are...

reply... I haven´t tore down my fj60 axles yet, but how can a drop in diff be a c-clip. ??
about the leangth the front fj60 is about the same with as the rear ifs v6 housing... or about 153 cm...

Sorry, Im talking about the rear axles. I seen a FSM pic of an exploded land cruiser rear axle(didn't say what style LC) So I thought I'd ask the marlin guys. Im just trying to clarify if the late model FJ60/62 axles are C-Clip.

they are most definitelly c clip... you need to take the pumpkin cover off, and you will see a rectangle block in between the spider gears... this is the spacer that hold the axles from floating in and also keeps the c clip in place because of that...
there is a shaft that goes through it and is held in place by a long locating bolt...
remove the locating bolt, let the rectangle block in between the spider gears fall out, push both axles in towards the 3rd member and the c clips at the end of the axles will fall off the end of the axles..

this makes sence. but to me you are descriping an dana axle.... all the cruiser axles I have seen are a drop in diff...
can you post pics of that housing.

yes... all cruiser and mini trucks have a removable 3rd member..... i have never worked on a dana axle although i have worked on many many cruiser and minitruck axles..

all cruisers have c clips in the rear diff unless its a full floater... i dont have any pics off hand... once you pull the rear cover off the diff you will see what i am talking about..

I think this is the rear you are referring to.

EDIT: 1978 FJ40 Axles

FJ60 and FJ80s have removable third if I remember correctly.

The axles in the above picture are regular semi floating C-clip rear and full float front just like most every Cruiser in the states. There are full float rears too and they have the protrusion in the center of the hub similar to a 14b FF or Dana 60...

Yoat goat - If you are contemplating building one of the aforementioned hybrid axles you can forget about the C-clip because you are using the mini outers which are non-clip. That also means you can run a front or full float ARB which has 4 spiders instead of the 2 spiders found in a C-clip variety.

i want to build a hybird too.
and want to know what year of lc's axles to look for (front and rear)

are they many different gears for these axles?? and lockers?

will the bobby longs fit into these front axles, cause they are wider right?

who sale's ready to run thirds.. all ready put together just drop in and go...

I've used '69, '74 and '78 FJ40 centers but they say the 55, 60 and 62 centers work too...

Yes, I've seen 3.73, 4.10, 4.11, 4.56 and 4.88... as for lockers you can get ARB (My personal favorite), Lock-right, Aussie-locker, detroit and others...

The Bobby longs will fit anywhere factory goods fit. If you build the front axle to use FJ60/62 inners it will be the same width as an FJ60/62 which is wider than the stock toy-mini front axle by about 3 inches...

if the 60/62 is wider than the mini by 3 in the bobby longs want work right??
i have not seen any wider axles from bobby??

trying to sort all this out before i start chopping and welding....

Bobby makes a set of inner axles to fit the 60/61/62 application.

The outers are the same for all trucks. Just make sure you specify what axle housing they are going into and you will be GTG.

Yep, I've seen 'em on both FJ40s and FJ60s....

I'm bettin' the FJ60 version would be easier to find.

The thirds are the same though so if building a hybrid you can use any of the big cruiser diffs.

Shortened 80'series rear (using the short axle on both sides) is a perfect axle for the rear of a hilux

Only problem is that it needs 16" rims, although it can be modded to use 15".
Also know about a dude that installed a 60 cruiser axle with offset diff under a 4runner without any problems. Only issue was that the fuel tank had to be modified to make space for the driveshaft. Drives fine.

i have a 80 rear axle 9.5 ring and i am wondering about running a mini drivshaft with it. does somone make flanges for it, or will a mini flange work?

also i have both a open diff and an e-locker for the axle, if i use the elocker i proble wouldnt even wire the motor because i really wouldnt need to unlock it.

so my question is should i weld up the open diff or use the e-locker. no one seems to want to buy it. ill sell the 9.5" e-locker with no motor for $300

Nob, at least nothing more then the virbration from the tires themself

Also have two friends running Dodge 3500 pickups with Unimog 1300 axles (same offset front and rear) and 54" tires with no problem or vibration at all. They only complain that the tires wear up fastar than a bottle of a beer on a friday night.

But then again I only have their word for it

Note that the Runner has the rear axle relocated some 6 - 8 inches backwards, reducing the driveshaft corners. Also Icelandic tucks tend to have less lift than USA ones, also reducing the corners.
