I think the old cruisers are like a 9.5" ring

If you find a fine spline pinion axle, that will be the strongest.  They are like 9.5".  Stay away from the course spline pinions, I have one and never broke it, but many have

The 9.5" ring gears are much stronger than the 8" but the pinions have same sized shaft and seal so the old course spline units break due to the small minor diameter.  The fine spline pinions have a larger minor diameter which is exactly the same as a toy-mini so the flanges are interchangeable.

The 9.5" thirds with fine spline pinions came stock with 2 different ratios.  In the late '70s FJ40s at 4.10, in FJ60s at 3.70 and in FJ62s at 4.10 ratios.

If you want to get the whole front axle then the FJ62s are the most desireable IMHO.  They have more gusseting and a 10° higher pinion angle for better clearance.

For a centered rear you'll need to build a hybrid using a combination of cruiser and mini bits and pieces.

I have a ? what about spring perches.

Say you got a 93 pickup and want 2 run a wider REAR axle  and you got a cruiser axle. will the springs line up  or will the perches have 2 be moved.

Cruiser rear axle has an offset pumpkin.  Toy-minis have a centered rear pumpkin.  To run a cruiser diff in a mini you build a Hybrid using the Cruiser pumpkin and the mini outers, brakes and drive axles.  Here is a link showing how:

The stock cruiser case is weaker and the gear ratios aren't very deep unless you go with an Orion (Advance Adapters) which is cast iron and 4:1.

These are approx.
FJ40 = 55"
FJ55 = 55"
FJ60 = 58"
FJ62 = 58"

Good point - I forgot the splitcase - and you can get lower gears IIRC...

Alright, to be clear Im talking about the FJ60/62. It seems that the FJ62 would be the better choice cause of the gusseting and pinion angle. Now the question is, can the FJ60/62 T-case be attached to a R150F/ R151F tranny? Could the 5 speed FJ tranny be bolted to a 22RE motor? Is the 5 speed stronger/ weaker than the turbo trannies, or L-52(my current tranny)
Thats the last questions... For now atleast.... Thanks guys your the best!

Marlin has a Toybox for FJ62s so that would mean the rear adapter for that should mate a Toy-mini range box to the Cruiser splitcase.  That way you could retain your 4 cyl clutch and tranny...

Might be easier to build that centered rear diff Hybrid and keep the toy-mini drivetrain.  :dunno:

Do you already have a crawler in your rig?

No I dont, just getting ideas in my head. :thumbs: I think it would be cool to have offset diffs, plus for ground clearance when your tire gets up on a obstacle. Thanks alot Hammerhead!  :beerchug:

Not sure about Cruisers other than the FJ40, but the width of the 40 is about identical to pre-86 Toyota trucks, So your '93 rear axle should be wider than a 40's.
Like Megolfer said, look for a fine splined axle as the coarser's Pinion gear is brittle and the gear teeth tend to come apart and destroy everything in the third.

I clicked on your profile and you say you live in cali,  I'd be interested in the front depending on if your bro live in Wash...  :talkingn:

For the rear, I'd need to save up for a diamond rear to center it, get the split case t-case from the Fj60 to run the rear which might not even bolt up, haven't searched if it will or not, they have the toybox adapter but I dont know, or just run it offset..? Do you guys think that the d-shaft would work at that angle? its offset by somewhere around 9". I know i'd need to relocate the tank or get a fuel cell...

Is there a pretty significant difference in strength between the LC and Mini? Is there better or worse oiling systems between the two? Are the differences between the LC and Mini just a bigger ring and pinion? I want to weigh the pros and cons of each here. Thanks guys!

The Cruiser is bigger all the way through except it uses the same spline count and diameter at the input flange (after '75?) and the drive axles.

What does this mean?

I have trashed Toy-mini R&Ps, carriers and spiders but have never hurt the axles or pinion shaft.

On the Cruiser diffs I have never been able to break any of the same pieces that broke on the mini.   I've only been able to twist off a couple of the old style course spline (small minor diameter) pinion shafts that were on the earlier cruisers.

I have a quick question for you guys. I am getting ready to put in some longfields in my front Fj62 30 spline 4.10 axle. I need to know if they are the same inner axle length as the mini truck axles does anyone have the inner axle shaft measurements handy for the fj62 axle ?

    Thanks Fox
