Your first 4X4
« on: Jul 05, 2004, 08:32:32 PM »
I would like to know what was your first 4X4 that started it all?
Mine was a 1969 Chevy pick up It was my Grand fathers old work truck not that good in tight areas and on the rocks due to the suspension. Deep snow and deep mud no problems: yupyup: then it was believe it or not 1984 Subaru GL this car had a transfer case and I use to wheel with it but the jeepsters I went with were getting jealous that I was going farther than they were: hahaha: hahaha:  When it came to ground clearance this thing got stuck allot but mud and snow no problem. So I got a Toyota (you can all thank my girlfriend for that) then they were down right pissed an 84 x-tra cab this thing was mostly stock outside the 3" rough country lift and the balding 31 BFG A/T just point it were you want to go and you are there.
I HATE INSPECTION & RUST! All my past 4x4 failed inspection due to rust in major areas.

The truck I am driving now is my first 4x4, and I love it.  People ask me what my dream car is, and my response is "I'm driving it."  Then they come back with an 81 Toyota?  And I say hell yeah I don't need anything more than this, it can go a lot further than an Escalade on 22's and I can still get as many ladies.

My first rig was an 83 SR5 4x4 Longbed. It ran on   I ran the piss out of it. He was finally laid to rest in 92 after 5 years of pure torture.

83 yota shortbed pickup!! Don't know if I've ever mentioned it but I drive a 2004 honda civic daily, my first car was a 1998 s-10 pickup 2WD(broke down constantly). Don't bash the civic please, I only leased it for a couple years, and I only pay $140/month for it. PLus, you can't beat 35mpg.

My first rig was a 1984 Toyota SR5 Standard Bed, bought it at a junk auction. Rebuilt everything and had a lot of fun with it. It was set up pretty decent by the standards back then, 33's, 5" of lift, Detroit locker rear, Downey limited front, 4:88 gears, winch, what I call the firetruck front bumper (bought it at a swapmeet), rear tube bumber, Recaro seats and some body armour. Talked alot with Marlin about getting a second t-case but never did get one, mainly because I bought an automatic 4Runner and loved how it worked in the rocks so when it was a run that required go-slow I'd just take the Runner.

91 v6 Toy from my dad, X-mas gift when I moved from the big city to montana. It was as perfect as a used vehicle could be. Looked, smelled and ran like brand new. The only thing I haven't messed with is the air conditioning, I think. This truck is what started my obsession. I love it and will never sell it.

My dad had a 48 jeep that i learned to wheel in at about 12 or 13 yrs old.
Then he had a 68 jeep v6 tough as nails.

Dad used to take my bros. & i 4 wheeling on the c-c-c roads in south mountain(long since closed, darn tree huggers) man those were good times. he tought me how to wheel at a young age and the skills ar still there.I'm 48 now & had a motorcycle acident in 98, broke my back (with spinal cord injury) but i can still walk a little and work the clutch (soft) on my 83.
i'm just gettin back into 4 wheeling and its as much fun as it used to be. <a href="http://" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://</a>
