like the title says.  If you've got specific OCD habits, post them up! :gap:

I'm not particularly obsessive about anything, but for some reason, this really bothered me:

So I had to go back and fix it

It also really bugs me for some reason when the teeth on my keys point different directions.  Anytime I put a new key on my ring, I have to make sure it faces the same way as the rest of them

Making sure that I know where EVERYTHING is located in my truck. Pennies ratchets, fuses ect. Since it's a reg cab and the truck I had before was an ex CAB that makes it all the more difficult! Tried a bed toolbox but couldn't se anything out the back(dogs, kids, honda civics, ect.) and hated the way it looked in the truck.(more ocd)
By the time I get the money for an SAS I'll be 65 at this rate!

ninja turtle

HA!!! dude i do the same thing with my keys!! thats some funny stuff.

NT-OUTBACK

I don't like any waste baskets in my apartment if I have trash it's bagged and tossed immediately.

I cannot stand leaving electronics plugged in that are not doing anything. Example my printer power is always unplugged until I need to use it.

I don't like storing food in my apartment that I know I will not eat within a week.

Once every six months I do the great sock purge, where all socks get tossed and I buy new ones.

I'm really anal when it comes to stuff I don't need such as: old school books, car magazines, car parts, electronics etc. If it has value it's being sold, none it's tossed or given away.  I don't like keeping stuff for the sake of keeping it if I know I will never use it in the next few months.

I don't even like saving emails, snail mail etc it all goes bye unless it's a ongoing transaction of some sort.

At the end of each semester after my grades have been recorded. I toss all my old school work both on my computer and papers. Some people I know keep all this crap.

I'm one hell of a minimalist my friends say.

COToy91

i organize all pens of the same color in a specific way facing the same direction, it always goes blue, pencils, black, highlighters, then permanent markers

I take a shower the same way for as long as i can remember always washing my hair first and then working my way down and end it with washing my hair again

I eat my salads from the center out

and i know there are many more

Honky...that's not OCD (isn't that a show on the WB?)...that's just plain old anal! A good quality to have when you're working on a truck or someone in a roll-over. I get panic attacks on occasion, like when I would play in a bar...I would set the stage up, do a sound check...then go outside, puke and pace until the first set started. Odd habits? When I unload the dishwasher, I put the clean dishes under the ones in the stack...to spread the wear out evenly. I can't throw away keys except for once every 12 years or so...even though I no longer work at a place, if I don't know where they go or if I've moved from Tennessee to Arizona...yes, I just threw away the key to my old house in Smyrna, I moved in '96!

I check every lock on my truck to make sure it is locked twice every time I leave my truck. Even if I am going to be getting back into it in like 2 minutes. If I am working on my truck and I open the door, I lock it and check it twice before leaving the truck for even a second.

When I am awake I must check on my truck every 1.5 hours to make sure it is locked and to make sure if it has been disturbed.

If I wake up to any noise, I go out to my truck and test to see if every lock is locked, twice. If it is I go back to bed. If it isn't (never happened before) I do not know what I will do.

If I look out at my truck thru a window at any point and see anything moving around it, I stop what I am doing and go out to check on my truck. If there is a person within 5 feet of my truck, I have a mini-panic attack and think they are going to steal it. This causes me to run out to the truck and sit in it. I then get out when I feel its safe, and check every lock twice.

As one can see, I am a little OCD about making sure my truck is secure and has not been messed with. I check everything twice, every time. And I do not just look at the push button deal, oh no, I actually wok the handle, even if the button is down. I do not trust people.

I know OCD can be a serious disorder but you guys are cracking me up!
I guess I do the minimalist thing, especially since we started the house project, I've always gotten rid of clothes. If I haven't worn something in 6 months-year OUT IT GOES. If there is even the smallest hole in a sock OUT IT GOES. I hate toe holes.
I go through the mail when I get home, everthing that isn't important goes in the trash, flyers, catalogs, EVERYTHING. If I need something I can find it online.
I do the same thing with the plates too, but I also have one plate that is not part of our 8 piece set, that one always has to go on the bottom.
Also, all the cards in my wallet (credit/debit cards, drivers license, Sams Club card etc...) have to be in their exact spot or I panic thinking I lost one.

I never thought of any of that as OCD though.

I wouldn't think of it as OCD either.

There are alot of habits I have, but OCD.....no way! There are things I do to stay organized, and things that I am anal about, as far as how its done, or how it is placed, but OCD to me is just another label people use to explain that the act humanly, subconsciously, and most time are anal about simple stuff. Alot of these traits that could be called OCD are learned traits, that could be overcome if the person following these habits so wished.
Hug your kids, pray for a soldier, and don't sweat the small stuff.

OCD is not something a person can easily overcome. It is a disorder, and affects daily life. The person realizes it affects their daily life. If they don't realize its affecting their daily life its called something else, but I don't remember what its called. Usually the effects of OCD include a lot of anxiety. Just do some research on it, its a real disorder and people are not just making this stuff up.

I think everyone is OCD to a certain extent.....some people are just a lot more than others..and like you said when it starts to affect their daily life (and others around them) they need help

Yes, most of what is posted here are just habits.
I would say KDX's obsession with his truck being locked and/or fear of it being stolen definetly comes under the OCD heading though.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/obsessive-compulsive-disorder/DS00189/DSECTION=2

Signs and symptoms
Obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms include both obsessions and compulsions. OCD symptoms can be severe and time-consuming. For instance, someone who feels that his or her hands have become contaminated by germs — an obsession — may spend hours washing them each day — a compulsion. The focus on hand washing may be so great that he or she can accomplish little else.

Obsessions
OCD obsessions are repeated, persistent, unwanted ideas, thoughts, images or impulses that you experience involuntarily and that appear to be senseless. These obsessions typically intrude when you're trying to think of or do other things.

Typical OCD obsessions revolve around:

Fear of contamination or dirtRepeated doubts
Having things orderly and symmetrical
Aggressive or horrific impulses
Sexual images

OCD symptoms involving obsessions may include:

Fear of being contaminated by shaking hands or by touching objects others have touched
Doubts that you've locked the door or turned off the stove
Repeated thoughts that you've hurt someone in a traffic accident
Intense distress when objects aren't orderly, lined up properly or facing the right way
Images of hurting your child
Impulses to shout obscenities in inappropriate situations
Avoidance of situations that can trigger obsessions, such as shaking hands
Replaying pornographic images in your mind
Dermatitis because of frequent hand washing
Skin lesions because of picking at the skin
Hair loss or bald spots because of hair pulling

Compulsions
Compulsions are repetitive behaviors that you feel driven to perform. These repetitive behaviors are meant to prevent or reduce anxiety or distress related to your obsessions. For instance, if you believe you ran over someone in your car, you may return to the scene over and over because you just can't shake your doubts. You may even make up rules or rituals to follow that help control the anxiety you feel when having obsessive thoughts.

Typical compulsions revolve around:

Washing and cleaning
Counting
Checking
Demanding reassurances
Repeating actions over and over
Arranging and making items appear orderly

OCD symptoms involving compulsions may include:

Washing hands until the skin becomes raw
Checking doors repeatedly to make sure they're locked
Checking the stove repeatedly to make sure it's off
Counting in certain patterns

I am the exact opposite of a minimalist. I'm a pack rat.  I still have parts off of the 81 that I scrapped like 3 years ago....  I just know that someone will want something that I still have so I keep it to give away to make their day go better.

I still have every 4x mag I've ever bought.  I keep street car magazines if they have good engine articles in them so I can use them at a later date for reference.

When the wife and I first got together it drove her absolutely nuts that I kept so much stuff around.  Then she started noticing why I keep what I keep so now she does it too... Not that we keep actual junk but if something has actual use at a later date it gets cleaned and stored.

No one would think that! A 15 year old copy of Hot Rod with an article on rebuilding Carters isn't junk...until you appear on the evening news because the county had to come to your house.

I do a lot of these things but I wouldn't call it OCD, I think it's just conscious effort to save some thinking and to minimize any added stress for something so simple and to avoid simple but costly mistakes in the near future. Turning the tires straight for example probably kept you from jumping in the truck later and not noticing the wheels turned and pulling out and hitting the garage before catching it  :dunno:. That would've been my reason for doing it since I'm sure I would've forgotten about it and done that... :ack:

Although, as a mechanic we always have to double check our work, especially with brakes and steering, to be sure that things didn't get left loose and that those components are functioning properly and safely so no one will get hurt. So far, so good.    As well, I keep my tools in fair order as a time saving issue so I won't spend 1/2 an hour looking for something that I should know where it is at all times. It's when I can't find it that I get   cause then I start thinking about how much $$$ that tool is to replace... :smack:  Sometimes I'll leave specific tools on the drivers seat so I won't forget to tighten something...for ex. I might leave a torque wrench on the seat so I will remember to tighten the U-bolts or wheels if I had to walk away for a while.  If will be a long while I just make a note so not to forget later.  :gap:   OCD?...maybe...I call it good practice!  :beerchug:

:hahaha:  I used to keep EVERYTHING toyota related.  I had parts for crap noone needs now or did when it was new.. hell I have a full set of shims for the lower cap on early fj-40's.  They have a smaller bolt pattern that mini trucks so I keep them around jsut incase someone needs them...

I just bought a bigger tote to put wheeling parts into for the yota.  I carry a couple spare rear outputs, inner shafts, front outputs, driveline parts, spare rear half of a t-case housing (2 of my good buddies have a tendance of busting these) a couple first aide kits, cordless drill, bits and ez outs, a fishing tackle tray box thingy packed with studs, nuts, cone washers, knuckle shims etc etc etc etc etc.  I even carry a complete engine gasket kit just in case....

I can fix damned near anything out on the trail, whether its a yota or a jeep I carry parts for it.  I like to be the guy that helps people on the trail.  If I have something you need your welcome to it. :)

Ok, today was a very traumatic day for me. As many of you know today was April Fools Day. I guess that means people can mess with your truck and it will "all be ok." Not so much for me. I went out to do my last 1.5 door check of the day to find duct tape put over every door handle/lock on my truck. I like flipped. It was very bad. I got over it and went to class after taking the tape off and ensuring that nothing else on my truck was touched. Then, later at work, everything was fine on my first 1.5 hour check, but when I went out to leave, guess what I found? A bunch of window writing on my truck. Once again, I had a little panic attack. I then proceeded to use 45 minutes to get every last bit of the window paint off. It was very bad. I really hope no one ever does that to me again. :(
