Street Ability
« on: Mar 21, 2008, 10:18:13 AM »
I am considering the 4.7 Toybox for my BJ74, using the H55f transmission and split T-case.
What is the experience out there with any additional gear slop when driving around town or on the trails  The truck is low mileage (75,000 miles) and otherwise still runs very tight. Was wondering what I might give up to get  great 'go slow' gears

thanks in advance.

I have no experience with that exact combo but I've used, worked on, or driven, just about every other combination I can think of and never noticed any real drivetrain slop caused by doubling.
'82 pickup, +3, locked, doubled
'82 pickup, IFS long travel, V8
'85 4runner, V8 rock crawler
'88 X-cab, V6

Yep, one of my friends runs a Toybox and says it's awesome...

You might want to try the 2.28 stock gears first as the 4.7 might be a bit deep unless you are doing some serious rock crawling.

If you saw with your own eyes how these go together you would have no doubt about the system as a whole.  The tolerances I've experienced in building units like this could never be noticed by a driver.

Just do it, you'll love it

I am running a sm465, toybox with 2.28 and a splitcase.  Not slop at all and I love the setup.  Was the best investment I have made
